Welcome Brian Devon, your first and hopefully not your last post.

It's great that you enjoyed Carnival week enough to register on this site.  I certainly enjoyed some of it, but overall (and in many people's opinion) it's been an amateurish affair, dominated by spite and politics. Perhaps you haven't read the reasons some people feel it has by no means been the best Carnival in years.

If you happen to be in contact with any of the carnival committee, tell them their hard work is appreciated but they could make it so much better if they worked together with rather than against the many capable and well intentioned people of Dawlish.

Mmmmmm.

Maybe the Carnival itself was good (and thats mainly due to the Public participation) and the pram race was great fun, but the amount of events on the lawn this year was minimal. I thought last years was quiet on the lawn but there was even less this year.

As for the 'stalls', less said the better.

Sorry, but David Rowlands fair doesnt constitute a Carnival.

Just my opinion.

The carnival was embarrassingly poor. 5 entries in the raft race, 2 entries in the tug of war (the carnival committee v fairground pikeys!!), and as for the pram race debacle??!!  The procession was well attended by very patient spectators, but again the number of floats was well down on previous years.

Time for change.

carer onces again here you are with your criticism of every thing.

you have been invited to help someone who is nothing to do with the carnival yet you say you cant till end septemder (all you had to do was email him with what you saw wrong with the site)

but you find time to keep on about how the people who do get off there backsides turn help away

you need to go and get a life or better still stop hideing behind a silly name put your real name here and stand to go on the carnival committee with a open offer to them on this site

at least then we could  appreciate your veiws

untill then take your own advice less said the better.

the observer was just the same he got the guys email address and so far hes just messaged me asking for a name why dont you email him  because you also had  enoutgh to say  hope david force see what he is up against if you are the people who go to this meeting  i for one realy enjoyed the carnival

also David Rowlands fair doesnt constitute a Carnival. you are right but then again he has been coming to dawlish for years and has put money up what have you done????

For myself I thought it was a amateur affair. but then again that's what it's all about  ( amateur)  That being said they did the best they could with the time allotted considering only a matter of weeks ago it was in danger of not happening at all. Perhaps next year would have a little more finesse.  I congratulate all the youngsters they did a great job and by the time they had got to the Strand they looked really tired.

The personal attacks on here is very childish.

Hang on BB, some of the committee have been there for years and know exactly how the carnival runs.  I know they were short of marshals at one stage but every year there is some sort of drama that might mean the carnival won't go ahead, to me it always smacks of aiming for free publicity but maybe that's cynical.

the procession was good, that's down to people taking part.

the rest of the week and the shenanigans over the chairwoman's comments weren't something to be proud of.

Oh well lets see what happens from here in.

BTW Don and Mary, this site allows for pen names and anonymity, it's personal choice and should be respected (despite the shameless attempts to 'out' posters that I have seen).

@Brian Devon.

When you say best carnival for a good few years, how many?

As in the past been somewhat involved in the carnival for a number of years, i know personally the hard work involved

The carnival procession was ok but the Mayor should of represented our town,(I wonder how many carnivals our queen has been to this season where they have not been represented by their Mayor)

The queens floats would have been better spaced between other entrants and not all together. I know a few years ago people thought the majorettes were taking over the procession but Gordon and his team was a great loss.

I remember when there used to be a couple of David Rowlands rides down at the far end of the lawn and after the carnival procession famillies would congregate on the lawn for a hog roast and discuss the procession, where as this year the lawn was full of under aged drunks, admittedly plenty of police disposing their alcohol and a very busy fair! Mr Rowland must have been a very happy man. Wonder how much he donated to thhe carnival?

(How dare you tell/order me what to do.)  no one told you what to do you offered help so i provided

an email for you so you could help

(Just who the hell do you think you are?  )

well i am someone like you all i done was quote you on what you said in your post   ( less said the better.)

( I have done a lot for this town, a lot more than you or anyone else realises .)

well maybe you have how do i know, its ok useing a pen name but cant give you credit when i dont know you. I can only go on that, you posted a few comments so i ask if you would help this guy out .

but please read your post its all so negative nothing postivie.  I am sure that like me you want a good carnival but do we really need all the backbiting that goes on, all i said was if you feel you can do better but say carnival wont take any help then do something.

If people openly declare they are willing to help we would then see that people do get refused because at the moment its all hear-say    so sorry if you took offence

as for bb this was not a personal attack on anyone it is just to show that we can all sit and moan but when people get the chance they dont take it..

@Mrs C

I would personally like to see or hear your own definition of a "fairground pikey".

Have you any idea how offensive and highly insulting that is ?

If you think Mr Rowland and his staff are as described then Im afraid you may need re-educating

@ Don & Mary

Get your facts right.

Where exactly did you see that I offered to help? In the private message you sent, YOU delegated that I should help like YOU have done to OTHERS.

I say it again. Who the hell do you think you are telling me (and others) what to do?

As for my 'silly' name, well FYI that IS my surname. Mr E Carer.

PS. No one on here has to answer to YOU about their private lives.

@FredBassett I'm sorry that you and your fairground colleagues will have taken offense at my choice of adjective. I agree that it was unnecessary and I apologise. I certainly don't want to take you up on your veiled threat.

However the points I raised about this shambolic carnival are, I believe, otherwise completely valid.

I wonder has she ever been to Bridgwater carnival?

Whinging Pom - a person of British origin who will consistently complain about any situation that they may face. They are emotionally unable to deal with any sort of adverse condition without commenting negatively about it.

What an appropriate definition.

Anyway many people enjoyed Carnival week. So what's all the moaning for?

@Brazilnut.

My thoughts exactly. A superb day and only one fair ride.

Never seen the lawn so busy, and that includes this years carnival week.

I sincerely hope the CC took notice that we can have a great time without a fair taking over the carnival.

Congratulations to the Airshow committee for showing exactly what Dawlish want and what a decent committee are capable of doing.

At least they didn't complain about people who are NOT Dawlish born & bred and great to see the Mayor and his wife being welcomed by all.

As someone who was critical of many aspects of Carnival week,  I thought the Airshow and entire weeked was fantastic, right through to Monday night in the Marquee.   Hopefully it's clear for all to see that collaborating rather than being a closed shop is in the town's interest.  I was very proud to see how Dawlish raised its game.  More of the same please!
