At the Picturehouse, Bartholomew Steet West, Exeter. A very good film "Taking Liberties" 25 May - 5 July.
The shocking truth about the erosion of our fundamental civil liberties by Tony Blaire's government is exposed in this documentary. The film reveals how the five pillars of liberty - the right to liberty, to privacy, to a fair trial and to free speech, plus the prohibition of torture - have been systematically destroyed by Nulabour in a climate of fear generated by the government and the media.
The real examples of our hard-won and long standing liberties being undermined in a period of just ten years cited in the film are so ridiculous you will laugh, and are so terrifying that you will want to take action. The individual stories are combined with previously unseen footage, cheeky stunts and comments from leading celebrities, politicians, lawyers, human-rights activists and academics.
There are a few on this forum that could do no better than take a peek. law society, for instance. And also members of the Dawlish Town Council
Yes, civil liberties are a cornerstone of our society.
However, so are civic responsibilities.
I am at liberty to go around, like Master Cole, casually tossing around matches, oblivious to whether they torch something and cause an inferno.
If you can't abide by those responsibilities, then there is no automatic entitlement to the liberties either. Not if you want to live alongside the rest of the community.
If participants don't like it, they have the freedom to buy an air ticket and go and live in a society where anarchy is tolerated. Eg Afghanistan .
Really I should be Mayor of Dawlish.
