The Chippy Chappy are on the left just before going under the railway line.

Had some there the other night.

Very nice indeed.

Shop - Rock & Sole, on Strand Hill, next door to the South Devon Inn.

Food - Large cod & chips, 2 x jumbo battered sausages, curry sauce.

Verdict - Fast service, very tasty, I definitely recommend the Rock & Sole Fish and Chip Shop.

yes

I'm going to try all your suggested chip shops, purely in the interest of fairness and not because I'm a greedy pig!

Shop - Chip Ahoy (Model Fish Cafe), in Queen Street.

Food - Large cod & chips, curry sauce.

Verdict - Very friendly staff, fast service, tasty.

yes

I think I'm not discerning enough to be a good taster. I'll probably say that all food is nice. This needs to be done by someone with better taste than me. Having said that I will continue on my quest to try everything.

Next Chippy Chappy at the Warren.

@Brazilnut, I totally agree with you on the staff at Rock & Sole. In my review of rock and sole I purposely didn't mention the staff attitude as it was awful, I was on the verge of walking out. However the food was very good.

Rock & Sole staff, usually when a customer enters a shop it would be better to say something rather than just turn away and ignore the customer. If you're busy just say "I'll just be a minute".

I may go to the Rock & Sole again as the food quality was good. But I may just not bother, as I'd rather go to the Queen Street chip shop as the staff were really pleasant.

Brazilnut, many people think the same about the place!

I have to agree with BN and Smile. It used to be my usual Friday night expedition many times. Yes the owner is all what you say and have no idea why he is that way.  I do not go there anymore the quality has gone down, in fact the last time i went there the piece of fish was just batter. You can walk in there and stand there nobody says anything. The problem is when you think you are the only game in town service and quality falls.

Based on recommendations I went to Rock n Sole with large orders but twice came away with the wrong food packed.  Thankfully Model Fish Cafe re-opened as the much improved Chip Ahoy so we go there now.  Even so, a visit to any chip shop is an expensive business these days!

I just had chips at Rock n Sole about a month ago, would describe them as 'soapy' chips if you know what I mean. Previous owners of Rock n Sole used to have a good reputation for food and service...you need to be good located there.

Not been to Model Cafe for at least 5 years lol...used to be grumpy staff as they had the main business. I hate it when as a customer you are a bother ...seems the way now with many businessess  Customer services and 'polite' is not the way of the world.
