Are we having one this year?

Cannot find anything on the website concerning this years Carnival which makes me think we are not having one.

Does anyone in Dawlish.com land know any different?

Carnival is 10 - 17 August according to the website , with parade on the 16th.

Try asking the town councillors and TDC they hold all the answers. After all its their town and they have the final say as to what can and cannot happen on the Lawn and surrounding areas. Theyll probably send you to the Libary or Exeter rather than answer your question though.

Agreed Kenny, but I think you may have missed my point.

Just because the date is set for the Carnival, it doesn't necessarily mean that it will go ahead.

Looking on the DC website, it has not been updated for some time now.

Events like the Carnival Queen crowning. I have seen nothing advertised with regard to that.

@Carer

All I can tell you is that representatives of the Carnival come along to the Town Council's events committee and have told us that their planning for Carnival is on track.   Now that the Lawn is managed by Teignbridge all discussion about the precise details is done by Carnival with officers at Forde House.   I imagine full details will be released soon, and we can all look forward to a good week on the Lawn.

@User 4549, i was told that they are no longer a public interest company, no idea if that is right but if it is then they probably don't need to publish reports or accounts again!

Duckileaks: Perhaps it was wound up and put into liquidation. the reason I ask is I remember when he Ian Birdsey took over and was asked the question what about the £9.000 in the Carnival account he stated "we will do with that money what we will" which I found to be of interest.

Ah well I was told wrong then. Usual Dawlish gossip accuracy!

Many things that have been said by and about carnival have been interesting in recent years, I shall watch with baited breath to see how things progress this year....

Interesting Carnival Column in todays Dawlish Gazette.

The price of the carnival brochure's will drop to £2 each, and the prices of adverts will stay the same as last year.

They insist they are not a closed shop and still need help.

Have found the new Carnival Website. Not much info though despite only just over 7 weeks till the start of Carnival week.

Click here.

Well the link just worked for me.

Despite boasting on the about us page that they are being more professional the page really needs proof reading, grammar, punctuation and use of capitals all pretty poor.  You may think that this is petty but if you want to be professional and attract sponsors little things like this matter, if you cannot show attention to detail on something so basic it doesn't bode we'll for other things.

Click on the read full story link under the thank you logo on the home page.  Nothing has changed, still the same story of how people have tried to 'demean' them.  Yet at the same time asking for four more people to join committee, come on guys move on from the past, it looks like you can't let things go.

One other thing - at the bottom of the carnival day volunteer form, saying that you may turn people down without giving a reason won't really encourage someone to come foward will it!

Bloody autocorrect, bode well not bode we'll, but just proves my point about proof reading!!!

Totally agree about the need for the correct use of English. It drives me nuts when I see incorrect spelling, incorrect use of the apostrophe etc.

I know that we aren't all good at such things and sometimes I type one spelling but the computer thinks it knows better and I have to overide its 'correction'. So, as far as I am concerned postings on here using incorrect spellings and other errors are one one thing. However, websites and any other forms of advertising are quite another matter entirely (imho).

And as I am on this subject do I take it that there is only one female member of the British Legion in Starcross? (sign on RBL building says "Woman's Section").

@Lynne.

What has the RBL to do with this Carnival forum subject?

Is this going to be yet another forum post going off topic?

Hope not.

I can't imagine anyone from the Carnival Committee replying on here but I hope they take note.

@Carer

As I thought I had implied in my posting - my comment about the Starcross RBL was an 'as we're on the subject of correct spelling, incorrect use of the apostrophe etc here is another example' type of comment.

Off topic in terms of the Carnival I agree, but certainly on topic in terms of Duckileaks' comments about bad grammar etc.

Might I make a suggestion? Should anyone want to respond to my comment(s) either about bad grammar, incorrect spelling etc or the RBL sign at Starcross that they do so on a new thread. That way going off topic on this thread should cease right here.
