CHAOS IN A SMALL RESORT TOWN!

Well, don't we have a mess in Dawlish?   The fallen wall is still there like a beached whale causing all sorts of chaos on Teignmouth Hill. Sometimes traffic can't get up the hill because drivers who thought they had enough time to clear the wall couldn't due to traffic coming down. So the lower brook traffic comes to a standstill as Exeter Road gets backed up due to poorly timed traffic lights. And, let's not forget The Strand is closed off for ten days. On top of that, the brook lights have not been working for the past couple of weeks.  So it's going be very interesting this coming May Bank Holiday Weekend. I feel sorry for those tourists that want to come to Dawlish for a quiet visit only to find ...

CHAOS !!

I have been informed as stated elsewhere on these blogs that it is an insurance job and is not the responsibility of DCC or TDC and that a contractor has been appointed by the insurance company. The work should take about 10 working days to get things back to normal from when ever the contractor starts. I am trying to find out the name of the insurance company and the contractor so that pressure, other than that being applied by DCC, can be applied.

Rang Devon Highways about wall and all i got from the office Johnny was they would report

I see people are now decorating it to make it look even more attractive - selection of drink cans and food wrappers were on it last night when I went past.

DCC believe that the contractors are on site and they have told me that the mess will be cleared up by the end of next week. Perhaps they are all still in that loo at the top or maybe they are Irish and the Teignmouth Inn is to much of a temptation.

Walked down the Strand this morning and was wondering if somebody can tell me what the big square of paving is outside Ryders , looks like its going to be difficult to get a large lorry/fire engine past there, have they cocked up again and made the pavement too wide!!!

I have looked at these squares protruding out from the pavement. Are they going to put seating or benches in these area's. There is one of these squares outside Presents opposite the taxi office and I'm pretty sure the width of the road is rather tight for large trucks or emergency vehicles. Could this be the first part of making the Strand a pedestrian precinct ?? Outside the co-op last week they had finished the paving only to find this week they were digging it all up again. I predict this project will not be totally finished until end of June hopefully.

I think its as near as damn pedestrianised now anyway, when finished it will be just through traffic which was option B. They are all liars, lead us to believe parking would be allowed on lawnside and then sneakily revised it. I saw nothing to say the plans were being revised. Goodbye Dawlish Shops welcome to seasonal Coffee and Cafe Lounges

Excuse me wondering bugger what the visitors think !!!! what do the people who live here think!!!! we have tried to support the town all year round and now find we have been kicked in the teeth. The shops are losing £1000s a week at the moment how many are going to survive???? the only time I go down the Strand now is to work, rest of the time shop in Teignmouth or Aldi

If there were no visitors I am afraid you would probably only have the Coop... as you say people go to Aldi etc. The shops were losing money before the alterations started...retail is pointless in small towns...otherwise I am sure you would open a shop up.

The town is dead at the moment and when this is all finished I think thats all we will have in the winter the Coop, the rest will be closed until Easter. Maybe this was the aim all along, I bet you are glad you moved laugh

I see J Clatworthy retained his seat on Devon County County and retains his title Deputy Head (£35.000 per year) even though the votes he received have been greatly reduced.

He played a major part in the planning of the so called Strand rejuvenation, which I see as a distaster for the shops of The Strand.

Before some of you have a go at me for my opinion, its my opinion and I am entitled to it.

Well I must say lots of comments and opinions on the CHAOS as that's what it is. I live on the Strand and I watch the progress through the week. Now it might be my imagination but as I observe the workers Monday through Friday there doesn't seem to be the hive of activity as one would expect, I suppose work slower in the week and then we can have OVERTIME at the weekends including Sunday's.  It's very obvious that there has been some foul ups along the way and having to do the same work over again. I overheard one say to another " I'm not taking the blame for this one" end quote.

Seems to me Yellow hats are the worker bee's white hats supervisors at least I think so, and you can get some very interesting comments engaging them in conversation.

Hi Roberta.  Not sure i understand the question, but if you mean with regard to the Strand Project you have for the first time ever elected Councillors taking part in social media, taking up questions directly with the County Council and posting information on this site, something the old style Councillors would never do

Chaos can lead to loveliness!

There were lots of visitors in town today enjoying themselves.  The sun was shining, there were groups of people on the beach and lawns walking and picnickng, bowling in full swing, and black swans sunning themselves on the lawn.  The seafront is mended, with a flatter and larger space for tables and chairs outside the cafe than before.

The Strand is, admittedly, chaotic, but the contractors were busy at work (it's Sunday) getting it finished.  It'll look great by the end of the month when it's finished.
