Teignbridge Council (Who manage the Brook) have publicised the following information following questions from Dawlish Town Council

Update on progress with regards the de-silting and hydraulic modelling exercise of

the Brook in Dawlish.

1. When will the partial de-silting of the Brook take place?

Works to de-silt selected bays in the lower reaches will commence on Wednesday

24th / Thursday 25th April. Weir sluices will also be operated during this exercise, in

accordance with an agreement from the Environment Agency.

2. How long will this work take?

These works will be carried out over a maximum of four days. We aim to remove as

much sediment as possible in some critical bays, although this largely depends on

the flow within the river during this time.

3. Has the computerised Hydraulic Modelling Exercise been commissioned?

Yes, it was commissioned, week commencing Monday 15th April. An estimated

programme can be seen below. This will be updated regularly, on an on-going basis.

Outline Programme:

1. Project Award - w/c 15th April

2. Complete river bed survey (upper reaches) - 17th May

3. Complete modelling work and optioneering - 3rd June

4. TDC to meet and advise DTC of findings - 18th July

Does this mean that monies set aside by TDC and DTC for the rest of the improvements to the lawn area are being used to carry out the computer model of the brook and the dredging. 

Dawlish Town Council has reserved £100,000 from the sale proceeds of 34 Park Road to be used as partnership funding for future works to Lawn and Brook by Teignbridge.  None of that is being spent on the current exercise.  The Town Council contribution to the modelling exercise having been taken from last year's precept.  Teignbridge Council is on record as promising that they will bring forward plans for public consultation showing what they propose for the Lawn area, and I would expect at that time they will provide details of how much money is being reserved by them for that project.

@michaelclayson thank you for the reply, i just hope that tdc do hurry and show their proposal for the lawn area soon. but i note that you include the brook in your allocation of the £100,000 so i hope that it is not all going to be spent on dredging the brook.

@michaelclayson. Thankyou for the above info. Main concern is why waste money on another public consultation when niether DTC, TDC or DCC take any notice of them. I refere to the Strand project where the option voted for and won by one vote was for diagonal parking on the lawn side with a wider footpath on the shop side. We now have a lovely new footpath to park on because as a footpath its no more use than the existing one plus £170,000 worth of fancy lights that in time we wont be able to afford to have lit.

In reality the £100,000 you refer to should be paid off the loan your former town council took out to buy the old sally army building in the first place. Its not new investment money.

Just to add further interest wasent the lawn classified by the Environment Agency as a high risk flood area which could not be subjected to any form of development that would involve public use, ie a new bandstand and kiddies playpark disabled parking and others.
