Saw this planning application in the Dawlish Post - 13/01044/FUL - Timaru Gardens, Warren Road, - Variation of conditions 3 and 4 on planning permission 85/0996/29/4 to permit sale of farm shop products.
Thats really good news. Lets hope it happens and soon. Used to shop there years ago its a super place with loads of potential. Yet another nail in the coffin for Sainsburys the most expensive shop in Dawlish
Just looked at this planning application in a bit more detail.
The retail development has to be restricted to no more than 53 sq metres. Any bigger than that and it would fall under planning regs that might cause the planning application to be refused. (Sequential test).
Wish to have 15 spaces for car parking.
Wish to sell; fresh fruit & veg, potatoes, eggs, pre-packaged and pre-made goods sourced from local farmers and producers such as meats, game, cheeses, pies, pasties, breads, preserves.
Also: garden furniture and ornaments, peat, compost, shrubs, flowers, bedding plants, seeds.
Sounds like an excellent edition to the other businesses at that end of Dawlish and more employment good news. Let's hope permission is granted.
This application is on the agenda for tomorrow night's (Tuesday 30th April) town council planning committee meeting.
Here is a list of the town councillors who sit on the town council planning committee should you wish to contact them expressing your support for this application.
Howard Almond, Michael Clayson, Kate Henley, Rosalind Prowse, Terry Lowther, Pauline Bloomfield, Greg Fenne, Linda Petherick, Mary Lowther, Bob Vickery.
Wow, thanks so much for your support!!!! My name is Scott and my fiancee is Becca. We have been overwhelmed by the number of people that have dropped in to see us since the sign went up and even more overwhelmed by the encouragement we have received. We took on the lease in April and as you have seen developments are well under way. If any of you would like to come in and have a look round (please forgive current state of certain areas) you are more than welcome. We will be open to the general public, assuming we can overcome these planning difficulties, on the 6th of July. I am due to speak to the council again Tuesday. I'm still unclear as to the reasoning of their decision as the shop area we have developed is exactly the same as the previous shop area which is 104m2 not 53!! If anybody has any photographs of the shop as it was please let me know as it may well support our case. Thank you so much again for your support and encouragement and we can't wait to meet you. Scott & Becca
Well I can't think of many businesses that would want to start up next to our own sewerage works! If our councillors don't get behind it I will be dismayed!
Provided that your prices are ballpark I'll certainly use you...Good Luck to you both.
Hi Scott and Becca,
Just been having a look online at your planning app.
Can you confirm what it is exactly you're wanting to sell please. Is it just farm produce or will there be garden stuff as well?
Only asking as in a previous post I listed what I thought it was you want to sell but now, having looked again at your planning app. again, I can find no mention of plants etc only farm food produce.
It may be the case that I misread a letter dated 1985(!) listing the items to be sold and which was written in reference to a previous planning application, as a letter written recently explaining what it is that you wish to sell.
Looking again at your application is seems you wish to sell only farm produce. No garden centre stuff. Is that correct?
Thanks
Just had to ask Lynne as you have checked out the application. Have Sainsbury's or their PR people objected if so, theres the answer pure and simple.
Good oh - just down to the incompetents at TDC again then. If you want to open a retail outlet in these depressed times what the hell does it matter what your intending to sell and whats it got to do with the idiot TDC planning dept they should be gratefull to anyone who wants to open a new business. Bet Cllr Hockin wouldnt have this sort of issue.
Hi all- Sorry for the delay but I have been on site installing the shop fittings. Yeah the sewage works left us debating many a night- however there is no evidence inside the shop and rarely any outside so am hoping it wont put anybody off. We have secured the same supplier as the previous occupants so pricing will hopefully be familiar to you. We are also dealing direct with some farms so we should be keen on price. Hi Lynne yes just food and drink produce, sorry no garen centre products. We are using the main greenhouses for mushroom grows and seeing as space is looking like it will EXTREMELY limited its probably a good thing! To be honest Fred that was exactly my response. I find it incredulous that a business built to support the community and local producers in a building that has been underutilised for years would have any difficulties in setting up, especially one that was a farm shop before! It took 3 months of negotiations with SWW to get them to agree to the use of the building as well! Still I am commited to seeing through this project and of being of value to the community and have (although dwindling) confidence of the right outcome. I will be on site again tomorrow if anybody would like a nose around.
Good news- our proposed layout and size is now "acceptable" so will hopefully have an official outcome next week.
Great!. Keep us up to speed on developments. Look forward to your having a positive outcome and successful business.
Planning should be officially approved early next week. We have the space we wanted and also have planning for the front section so if all goes well we can expand in the near future. The shops nearly finished and opening next Saturday. We hope you like it.
Hi Scott,
Will you be selling locally produced cheeses? (Take a look at the 'A Decent Cheese' thread.
Just a reminder that this opened today!!!!
(and I've already been over and bought some goodies).
Scott says it will be open every day except Monday (but might be open this Monday).
