Elect politicians (or appoint a town manager) for one year only and call them the King or Queen. Crowning to be a major celebration. Let them live in style. At the end of the year have a vote as to whether or not they have been successful. If so, they must retire. If not, they are sacrificed on the Lawn to the Black Swans, with much merry-making. Major tourist attraction for the Summer. Traditional. Everybody wins.
Missed the obvious -
WHAT ABOUT ANOTHER SUPERMARKET
OR
1,000 AFFORDABLE HOUSES THAT NOBODY WANTS
Reckon what would really make people happy would be a giant TESCO on the lawn with a multi story car parking on the top and a rooftop cafe overlooking the brook and ducks.
Would that be free parking in the muti-storey or £1 per hour just to put the shoppers off like it is now.
Also could we have Asda instead of Tesco as their green and white colours would blend in rather nicely on the lawn.
p.s. do you know any really happy people in Dawlish.
Free Parkimg on the roof.
Before anyone says..you cant build on the lawn..no big store would find it worthwhile as NA and Exe so close. I dont think there is anyone happy..unless moved in.
Im happy living in Dawlish, couldnt think of anywhere nicer. Its not Dawlish that makes me unhappy sometimes its the times we live in. Wish I could go back to the easy going days of the 60s
Have you all got a one track mind? Supermarkets parking affordable housing Flim Flam Tish Tosh
What about a Chicken Ranch,Cider Bar, Red light zone?
NOW DON'T GO OFF THE SUBJECT AGAIN.
Whenever I go past Jack Sprats, it looks busy. I hope it's working out. A few more ambitious shops and maybe Dawlish could be a bit more upmarket at some time in the future.
On a more sensible note remembering back in the 70s up in the Midlands we used to have Sunday markets. They were not so much car boot sales but proper markets with proper market traders. I recall these started off quite small on the old traditional market grounds and factory car parks, but then thay became a massive Sunday activity and moved into the local fields. I maybe wrong but I think the authorities put a stop to them because of traffic jams and insurance issues. Warren farm would be a super place for such an activity.
