For the amount of time and traffic holdups its causing should it be named the
Dawlish Golden Gate.
Funny you should mention that one. Have it in writing from the borough engineer just this morning. They should be finished on Exeter Road at the end of the first week in March, but will then have to close Secmanton Lane.
I have noticed that JTT are the contractors for that one and also the Strand works.
Have used them on a couple of minor projects and have found them a great firm to have working for you.
And, Yes, that can be construed as a recommendation.lol
From my OS map it looks like there are three streams that converge to make Shutterton Brook around about Shutterton Bridge area.
One stream flows down from Secmaton Farm area, another across the fields down from Langdon Road and the third from the Millcroft Farm area.
Does that help?
The contrators may be highly recommended and produce quality work but to get back to the main point of the thread they or some other cause are approx 2-months behind on the original posted schedule, work on the Dawlish bound side should have been finished at Christmas
Secmaton Lane was always due to be closed in March but only for 4 weeks according to notification from TDC. They are supposed to be opening the pedestrian section of the lane whilst the bridge end is closed.
The Exeter road work was to be completed by the 1st Feb and the road was due on that date tobe returned to normal use. so at the rate things are being carried out completion by Easter looks doubtful. Also Secmaton Lane was supposed to be closed to traffic from the Exeter road from the 4th March hence no bin collection for the residence down there so far this week. Another TDC messup.
Don't think so. Not at the moment at any rate. I got caught out on that a few weeks back. Had to turn around and come back home. Hope there will be a pavement on at least on one side of the road when all this is finished not least because I remember it being argued that Sainsbury's should be located at Shutterton Bridge because its proximity to housing meant people could walk to it.
So that could make people cross the road then cross the bridge then cross the road again to get to the Sainsbury supermarket?
When it is finished the paths on both sides will be reinstated. At the moment the route to Sainsbury' s is up little week lane then down Secmaton Lane.
Who gives a shit about Sainsbury's. Take the oppertunity to broaden your shopping experience. Morrisons at Teignmouth is far better and last night their fuel was 2p cheaper as well. They also have an excellent cafe which offers a selection of free kids meals with every adult meal bought. We had two Chicken korma with Narn bread a kids burger and chips and a kids spagboll plus drinks and free apple slices all for £8. Sainsbury's Dawlish is aimed at the holiday trade and is a total rip off, its a lot more expensive than their bigger stores in Exeter.
Just mention the S word and off you go eh FB?
So howsabout a footpath needs to be located across Shutterton Bridge irrespective of the location of that supermarket you just love to hate.
Happy now?
& Lynne
We all managed perfectly well without a footpath for years before the dreaded S so whats the problem now. The new footpaths created by the S development only end up at the S store anyway. As stated before if the main issue of commuting to the store was by foot or cycle, why did they build a car park for 250+ vehicles.
Really Lynne sometimes you make such a big issue out of little problems, if you cant walk there jump on the little Bus they provide, come on its not rocket science
I like to walk, and not unsurprisingly I like to walk on pavements/dedicated footpaths. For some reason I think they are safer than walking on roads. Perhaps you could explain to me why that might be.
And I don't see whether or not there will be a footpath as a little problem. You might see it as a little problem but others would disagree.
Hi Fred it seems you have issues especially about Sainsbury, but my comment was
the concern for those with no transport or have walking problems.
It is obvious the person in charge of this mighty span is also related to the jobsworth
giving the go ahead for the expensive strand.
Both of which Fred you will not be using because your whole being will be at Morrisons.
It seems you are very close to the truth without even knowing it. Both projects are related in so much as the same contrator JTT is carrying out the work, I would assume in conjunction with SWH.
It is also but not directly connected to Sainsbury's due to the fact that £200,000 was taken under Section 106 to pay towards the Strand re-development via Millwoods whom developed (well Allmost) the Sainsbury site.
My issue with Sainsbury's is that they promised the people of Dawlish value for money prices, which they havent. They are ripping us off just like someone responsible for the Strand re-development job.
Incidently have passed by both projects this morning and witnessed the same situation at both, i.e. more bodies stood around with their hands in their pockets than there are actually working. Also saw several vehicles testing out the new lawn side foot path by parking on it, maybe things might not be so bad after all. KEEP DEATH OFF THE ROADS - DRIVE ON THE FOOTPATH.
Hi Lynne - thought cycling was your thing, not walking. Its usaually cycle paths your all in favour of. Do you have a car by the way?
There is a lights controlled crossing at the top of Secmaton Lane, after the lane the footpath goes onto Langdon hospital ground. The road after Secmaton is not wide enough to support footpath both sides.
Also once the bridge works are completed the footpath on both sides will be re-instated over the bridge so I am told.
