Dawlish Discussion

As part of a programme to introduce high speed connections three new broadband cabinets are to be introduced in Dawlish.

Once the fibre optic system installation is complete download speeds will be almost ten times faster, and will be available to 3,300 homes and businesses in the town.

The green telecommunications cabinets are proposed to be sited at Strand Hill, Coronation Avenue and Old Town Street.

UK average download speeds are currently 9Mbp per second, when the system is complete, homes and businesses will see this increase to 80Mbps, upload speeds will also increase to 20Mbp per second.

The scheme is part of a £2.5 billion roll-out programme across the country.

Nothing for the Shuterton Industrial Estate, Dawlish Warren and associated Camp and holiday areas then, guess they still use slow mail.

You got it, east side gets the houses and the west gets the fibre broadband. 

Bt Infinity Became availble to order today in Parts of Dawlish. Have just Ordered mine to be installed on the 7th September!!  Have only lived here 8 months but it's the one thing I've missed since I moved down here.

Perhaps Shutterton and the Warren should apply for Town status in their own right, seeing as Dawlish ends at the Warren Rd turning. Another thought would be to apply for a rates rebate.

Mcjrpc suggest u ring bt on 100 infinity is available this week and engineer will instal mine on

@Mcjrpc i've been checking the bt website daily since the begining of july when it said it would be availble between july and september. when i checked on wednesday evening it said it was availble and booked an instelation online straight away before posting on here. order tracking is saying all is going to plan.

@gamer @Gadget.    The website was still telling me it's not available so I called BT sales.  She told me the same and she had no information as to when it will become available.   Computer says no... reminded me of why I got rid of BT all those years ago.

I just checked a random address on Strand Hill and it told me that it was available so it must be that I'm not connected to one of those three lucky green cabinets.   Oh well, be sure to post how you get on at your fibre optic party while us copper wires watch enviously over the fence.

same kit here - but rather strange, I did some telephone checks and it  is not yet available to others in the street nearer to the cabinate than me. But I have been with bt a long time so maybe thats a hint. The cabinate is near the predestrian crossing in Exeter Road - post office end.

Ok the BT man as just Left and I now have BT Infinity 2. Wow forgot how fast it is am getting 64.45 Mb/s

hi back here again to let you know there is a new upgrade bt router/modem combined (BT Home Hub 5).

Only one mains socket needed, my current speed is 62 d/l  and 10.4 upload (slightly faster)  - unit is free but there is a postage/pk fee of about £7..

BT Infinity site has changed from Coming Soon to Accepting Orders but it's still not available for my postcode, and looking at the small print it's possible it could take a while yet. In the meantime my broadband continues to drop hourly. I'm told the router should be plugged into the main socket but if I do that, the signal doesn't reach where I use it most.  

are you hardwired or wireless to the computer where you use it most ??

If you are hardwired (ie you take the modem to the computer area and plug it in) I suggest, if possible, to run a sole line, from the main socket to the computer area and plug that into the router. thus eliminating all other drains from the house line.

If you run the computer as wireless you may need to fit a wireless connector if you are running an old wireless setup  ie a

DIGIFLEX Wireless Internet USB Adaptor WiFi Dongle 150Mbps For Windows 7 / XP / Vista cost about £9..

My laptop (Windows 8) is connected by wifi.  The Digiflex dongle is compatible with it so I'll give it a go.  Thanks very much.
