There aren't many places where homebuyers can combine proximity to coast, countryside and convenient transport links, but regional housebuilder Cavanna Homes is offering just that mix at Aspects, its new development of 118 homes in Dawlish in south Devon.

The new development is situated less than a mile from the sea, is set in a mature, landscapes location adjacent to woods and farmland and is only a short walk from the train station. With a journey time of as little as 12 minutes to Exeter, one of Devon's major commercial centres, it makes the perfect base for commuters who don't want a city centre property.

When they say "adjacent to farmland" I wonder just what farmland they have in mind? Would it be the farmland that is scheduled to have 100s of houses built on it over the next 20 years or so?  

Like the way they push the train commuting aspect. In other words Dawlish has no jobs, the buses are useless and the car journey to Exeter is a pain at rush hour. Also the mature landscape has now been destroyed to make room for more houses that local people cant afford and nobody else wants anyway.

No mention of any expansion of the over crowded medical and educational facilities. Any idea what section 106 agreements have been made, not that they are totally relevant as they rarely seem to be enforced (see freedom of information requests TDC website)

Short walk from the train station, it would probably be quicker than trying to drive, all these cars coming off this estate, the other estate on Secmaton lane along with the 75 planned opposite Gate House School thats a lot of cars.

Begs the question, given the landslides and flooding, that we will have a rail line that is working............ 

Maybe if we where prepaired to pay higher prices for our food farmers would not sell land for houses if it was profitable for food production.

A further point is that only nine percent of land in the UK is built on and the goverment want to increase that figure to thirteen percent  very tempting for farmers who are loosing money

Well, I doubt they'll get planning permission after the grilling received by Billson's company on Monday. Is there any more news on Shutterton Park?

They already have planning permission, my daughter is hoping to get one there

@ B'Nut - you talking about the Bovis/Cavanna Development at Secmaton Lane?

For info - the total number of homes being built by Bovis/Cavanna at their site at Secmaton Lane is 251. I don't know how over long a period of time those homes will be built. Guess it depends on how quickly they sell.

Of those 251, 12% (30) are to be affordable. Of those 30, 15 will be affordable rent and 15 affordable housing of some other kind (shared ownership for example?).

If you are interested in having one of the affordable rent homes I believe you need to register your interest with Devon Home Choice. 

The ones that will eventually join with Swans Rise by a road, she is registered with home choice and will be looking at part ownership, I get confused with all the developements my son and his wife have took part ownership of one in swans rise.

that's the Bovis/Cavanna site then as it and the Swans Rise development back onto each other.

Understand that the affordable homes on the Cavanna/Bovis site at Secmaton Lane will be available April 2014 (and yes, that is 2014, not 2013) 

Update on when the affordable homes will be available.

June 2013 for the Bovis units (14 rent and 1 shared ownership) and October 2013 for the Cavanna units (2 rent and 13 shared ownership).
