Prices for a half plot at Lanherne had been just £10 a year. The land is owned by Teignbridge Council who originally wrote to the holders saying the price was to go up to £100 for a half plot.

After complaints Teignbridge Council have agreed to revise the increase to £50 a year for a half plot and £100 for a full plot.

One allotment holder said that £50 is still too high for a small plot with no amenities such as water on site. The current fees have remained the same for the last seven years and the council said it's not enough to cover the councils cost.

You dont have to grow a great deal of veg to cover £100 or £2.00 a week.   Based on a family off 4.  I estimate my veg plot saves me 15 to 20 pounds a week, and then there are the health benifits and last the satisfaction of eating what you have grown and sharing that experiance with others all in all I think its good value for money.

I'd imagine that it's quite difficult with no water?  If they are going to put up the rent they should provide better amenities perhaps?

Is there not a stream at the allotments

At the Lanherne allotments? I don't think so. Are you thinking of the Brown's Brook allotments?
