From the sounds and looks of it, day 01 of the bridge replacement has began. Workmen down there now (Sunday 00.10)

Morning Chef.

With a bit of luck, it will be finished now. LOL. If only.

Off to Ashcombe Horse show later.

A local informed source has said, "The work will be completed directly."

Well it will commence "directly", not due for completion until mid November. Work will be conducted daily between 11.30pm and 06.30am, from what I remember from the leaflet posted though my door.

So a few sleepless nights for me, as I live close by..... so be nice if you see me looking drawn and tired (also expecting a grandchild any day soon)

BUT, will be nice to have the trin station looking good at last

No, Don - the work will be completed 'dreckly'.

@flo

I decided to write it as "directly" in case chef did not recognise "dreckly." If he doesn't, he soon will and realise its connotation -  that it will be finished when it's finished, no doubt before his grandchild starts school.

Correct on all accounts! Strangely enough I always took the term to mean "soon". I stand corrected :-)

"Dreckly" might mean 2-3 weeks.  If I remember correctly our local councillor said that the old bridge was due to come down now, there would then be a gap of a week prior to the new bridge being delivered and fitted.  This would cause a problem of access after hours because network rail staff would not be available to assist those who needed help up and down the steps (or across the railway itself).  I think the council were trying to persuade network rail to provide additional out of hours staffing but I don't know how successful they've been in that.
