Well I've never heard anything like it,

We were mean't to complete on a business and property purchase a couple of weeks ago, our solicitors (Exeter) decided there was a slight issue that needs resolving adding 2 weeks (ie now) but this week have now informed us that they are going on holiday for 2 weeks and therefore exchange will not happen until their return.

GREAT so exchange late August completion early September and our son starts school in Dawlish in September

WHAT do we do ?????????????????????????????

Dilemma, son needs to go to school day 1

We won't have anywhere to live

We have a dog

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

we either live in a tent or pay for B&B for 2 weeks

ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS

Do you know it went through my mind only today to ask how your move to Dawlish was coming along. Now we know.

Are you saying that all the solicitors at the firm are going on holiday all at the same time and that the firm is closing down for two weeks or is it just the solicitor dealing with your house/business purchase who is on holiday for two weeks?

Just the one,

It's because (I assume) that it is so complex that they would have to brief a colleague so much they feel it wouldn't be worth it and it be better for us to wait.

They just dare not say that.

3 months of stress we will need a holiday soon

Find another solicitor.

Inform your current solicitor unless completion can be dealt with by a colleague by (say) 22 August that that is what you will be doing.  I work for one of the many many law firms in Exeter in the Southernhay area.  I hope it's not anyone from my firm who has let you down.

If you want to know the name of the firm I work for or any others, email me on:

Sorry to hear of delay. I know the feeling well, the sale in NZ of my house was also delayed and then delayed again. SO frustrating. Hope all sorts itself out soon.

Sorry to hear about your conveyencing calamity - you have my sympathy as had something similar happen to me a couple of years ago. I suggest that you make it clear to your solicitor about the seriousness of the situation. If they are not responsive, contact the solicitor's office manager or supervising partner.  If they think you are contemplating a formal complaint then they may well be willing to please. Just try a diplomatic but firm approach - it worked for me in a similar property dealing. I just wanted to suggest that you try to find temporary holiday accommodation that allows dogs to permit your son to start school. There are good bus links from Dawlish Warren to Dawlish (no.2 stagecoach) and there are plenty of holiday home landlords that allow dogs in their accommodation on the various parks. Since you are seeking accommodation outside school holidays then you maybe able to pick up a reasonable rental to meet your needs.

Hi all,

Thanks for your comments,

Changing solicitors scares me the conveyancing fees are £8k then we have the searches etc

We had another property fall through 2 1/2 hours before completion at the begining of June, costing us many thousands in solicitors and valuations.

Thank you Sharon changing now probably won't speed things up very much.

What annoys me the most is we agreed terms 1st week of June, no valuers to deal with and no security.

Bus, train services just to point out we currently live in temporary accomodation in Worcestershire.

Ladysmile £384 for 2 weeks

Thanks all
