I've noticed that the mini golf is being under utilised this season only opening at week-end's and only when fine! last year I was employed by the local council along with 2 others and at the start of April we worked 16 hours a week each increasing to 20 during the height of the summer season finishing the 2nd week ion September. On the whole the facility was well supported and most days takings were good. This season Teignbridge have taken over the managing of it and only employed 2 seasonal staff, one from Newton Abbot and the other from Teignmouth who was one of the three of us that worked last summer (Pat has passed away over the past few weeks sadly) no replacement has been made yet either, so there is only one attendant at the moment.
The flag pole has been removed from the kiosk which gave the public some idea what was on the plot and the flag has been secured to the bridge by the lights on Piermount Place. The flag states mini-golf open.....when it's not.
Whilst working there last summer I endeavoured to make the facility more prominent as I was desperate to obtain at least 5 month's work a year in Dawlish as employment opportunities are far and few between.
I am now relived that I did not have to rely on a postion this season as I can see that it is "going down the pan" and will not be in excistance in future summers.
Do you think that this is deliberate to eventually get rid of the mini golf and replace with a childrens play area / coach park which I read somewhere was once a proposal????
No, I don't think it's a play to make a different use of the area. I think it's more likely that as it has returned to the hands of Teignbridge they have gone back to their apathetic don't really give a stuff what happens to Dawlish ways.
Cynical, moi?
