I'm not looking for anything fancy just something that isn't omelette and chips. I know the Dawlish Brewery keeps trying but even that's not great. Is it because Dawlish people don't like to eat out?
Yes, it's a start, any chance we might get more choice...I can't work out if people in Dawlish don't want to eat out and so there's no chance of decent restaurants succeeding, or having no restauarants is stopping people from eating out!
If the new Co-op puts a plastic table and chairs outside we could scoff our cheese sarnies by candlelight
Old Brewery No 45 RESTAURANT is the best thing to hit Dawlish for years, prices are cheaper than others in Dawlish areas even the Boat House, and Smugglers and far superior quality
Best value for money, any one who disagrees does know there food.
Dirk is a superb top quality chef that dawlish residents are lucky to have promoting busines in the town, once tourist here this year about the restaurant and bar meals it will be the in place in Dawlish- it already to dawlish residents who know their food
Bar prices are also less than other establishments in Dawlish and have a far greater atmosphere than the smokey, foulmouthed pubs around
Maybe if you tried the Old Brewery you would have a good meal, we have been every week since it opened and have not had a bad meal at any time. Well done to Clive & Dirk for bringing some class to Dawlish. Meals are available to such everyones choice and pocket.
I have an idea, why dont you take a train or bus or even a cab up to Exeter - there are lots of great new restaurants there now :-)
Dawlish is def lacking in them.... nothing new there sadly!!
I've often thought about opening a bistro style place that sells simple tasty fresh food (and service with a :) - but there just doesn't seem to be a demand for it. Long live the deep fat fryer!
we do need a good decent restaurant maybe someone can talk matthew tilt head chef of the rodean restaurant in kenton to open one beccause his restaurant is byfar the best restaurant in teignbridge and exeter i should know i trained there under him for four years
I've been thinking for a long time about the lack of restaurants in Dawlish.. The PP went right down hill a while ago and sadly there's only so many times you can go out for a nice meal only to be disappointed with someone lighting up next to you as you're about to start eating along with the lager boys coming in for a hot one after a skin full... fair to say where else can they go, but with such little choice in town both clientelle are trapped... the HS on Brunswick could do with perhaps tighten up their service by letting their staff breathe and giving them the confidence to wait a table by them selves so there's less of a wait for a bottle of wine with only 2 other tables being waited on.. other than that, the things I've heard about the brewery bar are that it's very clicky, the service is slow and the staff are rude and it supprises me to see the same things written on this site!! The Anchor is a favourate of mine, but could do with arrangeing a taxi into their service so that's less to think about.. so... if staff that give a sh!t can be found, and the managers can let them breathe and be friendly.. then the rest all hangs on the chef with a business mind to get the prices right for the area... anyone up for a challenge? I can do the business bit but I can only cook bacon and super noodles!
Looks like there's more than 1 market to appeal to... Haven't we established that there's already enough deep fat frier joints in town?
If a decent expensive restaurant were to open, excatly how many of you would go regularly enough for it to stay in business?
The Smugglers is the BEST by far. Great food at a PROPER price, not like the brewery, that is so OVERPRICED, and the drinks are also overpriced. The smugglers also has a nice view, SO much better than the brewery,(no view at all, and fronting on the main road, pollution etc) and the drinks are a lot cheaper, and the staff are NICE, POLITE, etc.
As I said before, the brewery has NO atmosphere, is VERY clicky, and SO overpriced for something that is NOT that special...
The Witches Bowl in Dawlish is the Best Food anywhere its just up town from the taxi rank we ate there recently and the food was First Class and the Service was second to none, Highly Recommended David and Family.
I definatley think that Dawlish could do with some more restaurants/wine bars. They are plenty of greasy spoon establishments that could be renovated to our needs. Why they changed HSBC into a bookies is beyond me that would have been a lovelylittle wine bar.
I totally disagree The Old Brewery is the best place to eat in Dawlish, the menu has top grade food cooked and served by the best chef in Dawlish. His menu is varied and reasonably priced.
You obviously go for the fill your plate as but as you can at a caverey or like to be herded in to tables like cattle, the seats never get cold eat your meal move on in comes another customer.
At the Brewery you can sit and enjoy your food and then relax in the bar if you want to
CONGRATULATIONS DIRK AND CLIVE AND ALL YOUR STAFF ON A GREAT RESTAURANT, BAR AND THE ATMOSPHERE IS GREAT, ALL YOUR STAFF ARE PLEASANT AND DO THEIR JOBS PREFECTLY EVEN LITTLE CRAIG IN THE KITCHEN
