I wonder how many years we will have to wait for the end of the Jetty to be repaired? If someone from the council is reading this, dont wait till it is nearly demolished, it needs urgent (if you know the meaning of the word) attention now.

People jump to conclusions for many reasons.
The Jetty has nothing to do with the council or any council, it is the responsibility of the enviroment agency.
In case you wish to know?
The sea wall is under pinned by network rail as is the bridge connecting both sides of Dawlish railway station. The station both sides belong to First Great Western, for the duration of the franchise.

Also the first 50 ft of beach after the sea wall is also the responsibility of the rail company (network rail) to maintain, hence why ANY work on the sea walletc is carried out by them, the only exception is molly macs and the toilets as they come under duristiction of the coumcil for some strange reason, in addition the first 20 ft of the cliff top and also red rock belong to network rail.

There are many more problems to come with the breakwater/railway track and coastal erosion in general, due to Climate Change and rising sea-levels. The sea level has already risen by 1ft. since the railway was built and is expected to rise another 2 and a half by the end of the century. I certainly won't be around by then but it could have serious implications for Dawlish and Dawlish Warren, Starcross and Teignmouth!
Devon County Council together with Network Rail and the Rail Safety Board have formed a Task Group to work on all the implications including the effect on the Rail infrastructure.
Representatives from DARE and also from Friends of Dawlish Station have just recently taken part in one of the many meetings on this matter.
