It seems the The Children's Society will soon be adding their presence to our ever widening selection of charity shops (see the Shop Manager advert on page 31 in this week's Gazette).

Anyone know where this new retail venture will be located?

Davidsons was a 'proper' shop with good names like Lego and Playmobil and a very good range of puzzles. 'Bits and Bobs' seemed to go the route as the name suggests and so its to close.

At the end of the day you cant survive on just the summer trade...that's why an empty shop has to become a charity shop...they know people will use them.

Nelson we certainly do not need any more charity shops, the town needs a diverse range of traders to bring some interest into town and bring the punters back. Will we get to the stage that Dawlish is only known for its charity shops.

High street shopping is dying, face reality, you will never attract shops back to Dawlish, all the previous shops closed down becaue they didn't have customers. Traders in an area of Paignton, which I thought well supported, are signing a petition to persuade the Council to reduce rates and allow more parking as business has been steadily falling for the last couple of years.

And Torquay, I think there will soon be more empty shops than occupied.

The world is changing, there will be some high street type shopping areas that remain profitable but they are dying out because YOU and ME don't shop there any more.

Most small retail shops are not viable businesses, that's why they are closing down all over the Country, time for a Reality Check!!!!!!

There are plenty of shoppers, just go to any shopping centre, they are alway busy...........................

The Pub trade is complaining, but not Wetherspoons, why not??? I met a 'Pub' expert who helped people with failing pubs, all he ever did was complain about the way Wetherspoons did business and was quite annoyed when I suggested he should learn from them as their business plan obviously worked. About time people stopped going on about the 'good old days' times change, no good trying to ressurect something that is dead.

Bring on Wetherspoons for Dawlish! Be the best thing that has ever happend to this failing town!! Cheap drinks and food! Wins every day - about time the sub standard pubs and restaurants of Dawlish got a kick up the backside!

Wetherspoon does not set up and trade in small towns.

That isn't true, Wetherspoons have outlets in a number of small towns, Crediton for example population under 8000.

Wetherspoons has ambitious plans for 1600 outlets and they are targeting smaller towns, alarming local pub and cafe owners - but competition is great for the customer! Most villages and small towns would welcome Wetherspoons with open arms - but with this town being so short sighted and little minded - i doubt they would have the courage to stand up to the bullying tactics that are used by landlords and chip shop owners (no names - you know who they are!)

The Smugglers is the only decent pub in this town - the rest are dives! There are no decent places to eat either so a Wetherspoons would be fantastic for this town! Sooner rather than later!!
