So Pedestrianisation is not cut and dried out of 361 responses 180 for 181 against, todays front page of Gazette, so now they are suggesting a compromise traffic free between 10-4 with the exception of emergency vehicles and public transport, I dont think thats what the 181 voted against a majority is a majority even if its only 1

Agree with you on this one the FOR pedestrianisation campaign have lost and that ought to be the end of it. There is no ground for compromise. The case for no change is even stronger because the 12,000 + plus residents who as usual couldn't even be bothered to vote obviously dont want anything to change either. Let this be a lesson to Cllr Clatworthy and his fellow highways cronies at DCC pack up your stupid ideas and leave Dawlish alone this includes your ridiculous plans for Elm Grove Road as well.

All we need now is to rid the town of the pay and display meters and replace them with a 1 hour free park and we've cracked it, happy locals able to park shop bank etc and happy businesses looking forward to an hourly turn round of punters.

Now this rubbish is finally over maybe we can all begin to look forward to a busy and prosperous summer season, with lots of visitors and no disruption to the town

Id like to think that will happen but somehow dont think it will, its the only way for town business to compete with Sainsburys., I personally think the money should be spent on a general tidy up replacing the footpaths with new paving and adressing the Lawn and Brook + Tucks Plot. Why can nothing be simple

It wasn't a vote or a referendum. I'm really pleased that as many responded positively as did those who were against the proposal. I'd have expected those against to have been far greater in number due to human nature (as seen elsewhere in the country where vocal minorities rise up against changes). It's as perverse for MugOnHead to say that only 180 are for this scheme, as it is to say that only 181 are against the scheme. Perhaps the other 12,000+ residents don't care whether the Strand is improved or not?
