I have lived in Dawlish for all my life and I am Not saying that gives me anymore right than anyone else here, but I have seen Dawlish change and I do believe I Know Dawlish. My parents grew up in Dawlish and they were proud to live here and they passed that onto me too. So, whenever, someone may come on holiday and then start moaning and asking all sorts of questions, I suppose its natural to become defensive. However, I do find it difficult to understand why someone who dislikes Dawlish so much and only ever came here on holiday would even bother so much, unless they planned on moving here?

Dawlish, to me, was always the crown above the likes of local towns. However, I agree, our council has let us down in a big way. We have been left to flounder and not prosper and I have No idea where our money has gone...... However, Dawlish Has a Nightlife, Dawlish has a beach, that has Not changed since I was born - But, Dawlish town shops, the roads, the stupid layout of the parking on the Strand, That is what gets me - we don't encourage people to stop here and browse around, we are not helping ourselves. The Manor used to be a beautiful place to visit, what happened?? i spent many an hour playing there, it has been left to decay... Our Council needs to take stock, and use our money for Dawlish, come on how much would it cost to keep the Manor as it always was, prevent the ridiculous charging for parking and keep our roads smooth..... I Love Dawlish and all about it, its a special place, there is so much here for all of us but, we need our Council to take us forward and move on and, not maintain, but improve, because of their failures.

I would be more than happy to come on holiday here, don't get me wrong I understand about the 'sorry' situation of the railway station, but, we're not the only town where people urinate in those places.... Its a case of Us All joining together and making it work and its obvious how much people love this town by the feeling on this forum. Network Rail you have a lot to answer for.....

I agree with everything you say Cosy, there are more reasons to like Dawlish than not, we are not the only place to suffer from neglect, and there are far worse places to live. We can all have rose tinted memories of places we visited years ago but unfortunately with age reallity kicks in.

By the way off topic Threshers is to become another charity shop!!!!!

@Cosey. you mention "our council" twice in your latest post full of generalised views that are obviously gleaned from other people's posts on here; but i'll humour you and ask you which council do you mean?

Re Thresher shop, so which Charity is taking over there as we've been hearing this story for 18 months, does anyone actually know if this is true or is it just another 'story', charity shop, estate agent,........ etc etc etc. The list of what is was 'going to be' is endless.

It was definately going to be a discount store because I know the people who wanted to take it over but the Landlords terms were unacceptable so they pulled out.

The views of local people count for a great deal but both Teignmouth and Dawlish are tourist towns. The opinions of people who have visited are also important, whether positive or negative, and should not simply be dismissed because we don't like what they are saying.
