A major housing scheme on land west of Secmaton Lane, Dawlish, should go ahead according to Teignbridge planning officers.

Cavanna Homes and Bovis Homes are offering to make, at best 20 per cent of the 270 properties available for rent or sale at below market cost. If goverment grants cannot be secured that figure could fall to just seven per cent.

There will be a meeting to discuss planning applications again at Forde House, Newton Abbot on Monday, the meeting is due to start at 9.45am.

If the planning permission is granted at this meeting the councillors sitting on this meeting will give the green light to 33 rented flats and houses plus a further 23 for sale at below full market cost.

There has been strong opposition from people living in the area. Concerns include "traffic passing Gatehouse Primary school, also Dawlish Town Council has signalled its opposition on grounds including highways concerns and loss of trees and green spaces.
