A CCTV network in South Devon - ran by police, Teignbridge council and the Newton Abbot Business Security (NABS) group - has helped to recover thousands of pounds in stolen goods, a report said.
More than 500 arrests have been made and £37,946 of stolen property has been recovered in the past year, figures from the council revealed.
Ian Curzon, operations and support inspector at Devon and Cornwall Police, said CCTV is an effective system which can prevent and deter crime, with minimum budget and staffing levels.
Almost 50 locations across the district are monitored under the system and areas include Newton Abbot, Dawlish and Bovey Tracey.
Commenting on the report, Tom Hirst, chairman of the NABS group, said "in hard times it's great to see that we're actively saving local businesses and people money while also catching criminals".
