If like me you are fed up with cold callers constantly ringing the website to use is http://www.tpsonline.org.uk but if you google it the top listing is telephonepreference.org.uk. Don't use that one they charge you for it - it's a free service.
This sort of thing really grates. I've seen this for other things too - the European Health Card for one. It's an easy way to make money - you take someone's details, go to the official website and re-enter them then charge a tenner! Should be outlawed.

The problem is that these cold callers make money otherwise they wouldn't continue. I usually just hang up, occasionally have a few words, depending on my mood or what the caller says to me, can be fun!!
If everyone just didn't respond these people would stop as it wouldn't be worthwhile. I have never subscribed to anything like the tps and get very few calls and have never had a repeat call from anyone. Am sure just 'politely' telling these people to go away is more effective as several people I know have subscribed to all sorts of 'services' to stop calls and junkmail and seem to get more as a result.
I would suggest NEVER click an unsubscribe link on spam emails, all this does is confirm that your address is genuine so it gets sold on to loads more people, unsubscribe links are a form of 'phishing'. Better to bounce them although most spammers don't get the bounced mail but I feel better for doing it.
Similarly never send a STOP msg back to a spam txt msg, just delete them.
I have been subscribed to TPS for years. It cuts out most of the calls - the ones from reputable companies. By elimination, it means that those I do receive are ignoring my TPS preferences and cannot be trusted with any information at all that they do not have already.

Im on TPS and only get 2 or 3 calls a year. I keep them talking for as long as i can, get as much detail as possible and then tell them , im on TPS. They very quickly apologise and end the call.
Im on TPS but still get the calls from abroad, it doesn't seem to cover that, and so many call centres are now based abroad, I always know its early evening and the 'private number'. What gets to me is if you do answer it and say you're not interested, they just hang up - rude if you ask me.
