A meeting with Network Rail and HM Railway Inspectorate to discuss access for emergency vehicles to Dawlish Warren was described as "exceptionally positive" by Teignbridge MP Richard Younger-Ross.

At the moment the only access to the Warren is through a small tunnel which fire engines and ambulances are unable to use.

Mr Younger-Ross has been trying for two years to reach an agreement over use of a crossing to which emergency vehicles have so far been refused access.
There was concern about the crossing being abused and other people wanting to use it as well, but it would be purely for emergency vehicles.
