Dawlish Discussion

Just seen the news that Kevin has once again been able to secure the last flying Vulcan for the Airshow on Thursday 18th. I missed this wonderful aircraft in 2009 and I look forward to seeing it when I travel to Dawlish on the18th for my rest and respite from the rat race in London.

I thoroughly believe that Kevin and his organising committee should be supported in all their endeavours. They bring large crowds to Dawlish every year which certainly brings in a large amount of much needed cash to the local businesses. Dawlish Carnival is free to all its customers (with the exception of some events) and I for one have always found that the people of Dawlish enter into the spirit of the occasion (you only have to look at the work put into some of the prams for the pram race!!)

I have enjoyed travelling to Dawlish for over a decade now and despite the current economic situation and personal circumstance, I would not miss my trip to Devon.

Come on people - get behind your town, it needs you as townspeople to push all the harder to make sure that you do not lose the kudos that comes with your prime geographical location.

Brilliant news. Hopefully the sun will shine on us , and the town will be packed. Looking forward to a very enjoyable week.

Even though I wont be partaking in any of it this year(to be honest a bit bored with it now) I wish it all the success possible

Great news about the Vulcan! Looking forward to the airshow, it's always a great event for the town!

Sadly the Vulcan has had to pull out at the last minute with major technical issues which will prevent it displaying for the next two weeks - pity but, as the aircraft is over 50 years old with a large amount of flying hours it is to be expected that these things will happen. Lets just hope that the weather holds out for everyone.

What a shame the weather cut it short. But as usual well organised, good displays.

what happened to the red arrows,not as exciting without them

They were grounded in Bournemouth. They were going to do a display there before coming to Dawlish. Bournemouth had terrible weather with their airshow cancelled and the Red Arrows were grounded.

What happened to the other GR4?

The following text is taken from the Air Show website. Note the word PAIR, and NO, I am not being Anti Dawlish, or negative, but if something is advertised, then it should have been seen.

"On the plus side, I am really pleased to be able to tell you that we've secured the Royal Air Force Tornado GR.4 Role Demo once again! Crewed by XV(R) Squadron from RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland, the routine features a pair of Tornados simulating ground attack runs with plenty of speed and loads of noise"

@Carer - if you also read the small print you will see that all raf attendances are subject to operational commitments and serviceability. @Brazilnut - well said.

It never ceases to amaze me that people will nit pick over a simple thing like this and forget the loss of a valued member of the best aerobatic display team in the world. You should also remember that the pilots of the Tornadoes are combat pilots currently commited to two active theatres of conflict where they risk their lives on a daily basis.

Shame you dont know me as you will then know exactly what my feelings and responce to the tragic loss of Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging really are and the tribute that I have done for him on other sites.

Within minutes of hearing the news of the crash, (not through the media) I called for a prayer amongst the company that I was with, so do not refer to me as insensative.

You DONT know me so how dare you accuse me of such an action.

Also, this was a GR4 question and NOT a Red Arrows question, so WHY is it insensative?
