I beleive every word you say but how do you know that the young store manager cannot cope and people are leaving the store? It`s just the fact that I was asking about jobs there.Maybe I should go to Exeter!!

I had to laugh at those comments about Sainsburys. This is the classic textbook business managment scene when a new store opens, Mcdonalds, KFC, Tesco, Sainsburys etc. all go through this 'opening' phase.

There is no team as most people are newly trained and inexperienced, the people who don't fit in as team players leave very quickly, often after a few days, much to the relief of the managers and other new staff. After a few weeks 'team spirit' gets going as the new people get to know each other and the new store starts running properly. Running any new store is a nigtmare job at the start usually given only to experienced managers. It's quite laughable that mugonhead thinks Sainsburys don't know how to operate a new store, in a few months time chances are that the co-op will be reducing staff numbers as there is no way they can compete with the choice, range of goods and prices offered by the new Sainsburys store. Co-op had almost 3 years to offer Dawlish a better store in the old Woolworths building but did nothing till their feeble attempt just before Sainsburys opened, too little too late.

I go to the Co-op most days for convenience items but have just been out this evening to Sainsburys to do a 'proper' shop, and that is what most people I know in Dawlish are also doing.

wriggler , dont forget Smughead has invested £1 millions pounds into our community to look after us peasants. we should be grateful for his wise words . An industry leader such as Smughead knows far more about business, than poxy little Sainsburys.

Ooops, sorry. I did 'flock back' to the Co-op this morning for some bargain veg as they are selling a load at half price so much cheaper than Sainsburys. But was reliably informed by the Co-op staff that the sell-off was not to compete but that the veg was close to its sell by date as recent sales (since last Wednesday strangely enough) had been very poor.

Just think of the bargains that will be going at Sainsburys when they close down, I wonder if Tesco will put in an offer for the empty building!!

@Warrener

At last you make a correct assumption. Yes I do know quite a bit about business practice, and I also know from past experience how Sainsbury's and other retail giants operate. Its a shame you don't spend more of your internet usage time finding out the facts for yourself instead of slagging off everyone who makes a comment on here.

Do you honestly believe that Sainsburys shareholders give a stuff about You, Me, Local communities, providing top quality at a fair price, carbon emissions, etc or do you think they might just be in it for the profit.

You are obviously a sensible person who enjoys local products and facilities so why the continuing having a pop at like minded people. Supermarkets bleed communities dry. They know well in advance what they can get out of an area and will go to any length to achieve each stores targets.

Have you and maybe others forgotten about the eleven or so smaller industrial/office units they were supposed to build under the section 106 agreement in addition to their store. Well I don't see any trace of them do you? Apparently TDC have now given them 9 months to build them. The question here is what if they don't.

A betting man would guess they will try to build hundreds of houses on the the surrounding fields hence the roads going nowhere from the roundabouts as shown on their original planning application
