As other thread re by-election was/is getting a bit long I thought I'd start another with this bit of information (and thanks Vanguard for bringing it to our attention).

The candidates are 1 x Independent Voices for Dawlish, 1 x Green Party and 1 x Lib Dem.

Where's the Tory?

Hells Bells , where's your Tory boy. You claimed the tories expected to walk this seat in May , yet as i previously said, she was a paper candidate because they didnt want people to know how bad a mess the party was in.When she got in she resigned as she had no intention of taking her seat in the 1st place.

After wasting all this money the Tories knew they couldnt win this time , so they stepped aside hoping that The Liberals will take the seat. Remember they are just about the same party .

Please dont fall for this everyone , vote IVFD or Green and stop the major parties from taking our votes for granted. They've pulled the wool over our eyes for far too long. A UKIP/English Democrat candidate would have been nice and before anyone says why didnt i stand .Its not my ward

Does a person has to live in the ward for which s/he wishes to stand for election?

Short answer is no. Proximity will do.

Sorry Lynn , i should have been a bit clearer. Personally i tend to vote for a candidate that lives in the ward, as long as they arent from the gang of 3.Always felt that they know the ward better than an outsider.

Just had leaflets from both the lib dem candidate and the voices for dawlish. The VfD very helpfully had a list of streets who come under the ward that is voting.

@J.Warrener

I agree about persons living within the ward, but the VfD candidate, Howard ALMOND, lives just across the Exeter Road and is probably within 100 metres of the boundary of the Central Ward, so perhaps make an exception this time?

Totally agree Vanguard. Hopefully VFD will win , if not then the Greens. As long as the Liberals dont win i'll be happy. Clearly the tories have struggled to find a candidate as they are in turmoil, and they are hoping that Tories will switch to the Liberals.Neither care about the voters.

According to today's Gazette the reason there is no tory standing is because " a potential candidate withdrew before the nominations closed due to an illness in his family".

See top left hand side of page 2. Article headed " Illness forces withdrawal".

TDC now list which polling stations have been allocated to the various streets in Dawlish & Newton Abbot - they also have a nifty google map showing the location of said polling stations:

Lynne, im not sure id believe a word the tories come out with nowadays. After the lies they spouted on the reason for the previous candidate resigning , and the party in turmoil , they struggled to find a candidate and had no chance of finding supporters to deliver the leaflets. The decision was taken to allow the Liberals to have a clear run and hope than one of the cronies would get in. This way they have saved money and the embarrasment of a drubbing. LIB/Lab/Con are all the same only interested in what they can do for themselves. Dawlish woke up and voted for people who put its people and town 1st , its a shame the rest of the country wont wake up .

@J.Warrener

I was only reporting what the Gazette was reporting.

I made no comments one way or the other regarding its veracity.
