What's the story with putting parking charges onto the parking bays on Old Town Street? Cannot believe they've done it, It's not exactly a hot tourist area, there's nothing there other than residences. I've driven past today and there are about 5 cars with tickets on, the same cars that have been parking there ever since I've been living here. It is a real disgrace, purely a money making scheme. I'm really finding it hard to put into words exactly how I feel about this, it's not even as if it affects me personally, it doesn't, but I really feel for those that it does.
Ask Cllr J Clatworthy Deputy Leader Devon County Council also a member of the Highways committee, email john.clatworthy@devon.gov.uk
When the shops were there hairdressers , old town news, happy shopper and thorpes butchers it was made a 30min limited waiting area not sure of the year, those signs disappeared some years ago and residents have been parking happily ever since. Now some jobsworth has discovered that this is a restricted zone and reinstated the signs. Another balls up by TDC who forgot to delete this from the system no doubt, User4549 and I know how incompetent DCC and TDC Parking Services are!!!!!!!
Cal, Took a look this morning at Old Town Street, and you are right there never was a parking problem, but now, outside where Thorpes used to be, parking is allowed for half an hour, further along opposite Ferrett & Radiator, one hour parking, no return for one hour. There are no charges for parking, but a lovely place for the residents to receive a ticket.
Teignbridge and DCC will tell you this is ease Traffic flow and congestion of course that is not true, its as we all know its a money making exercise.
Treating us like idiots is what infuriates me, why not tell the truth and say 'we need the money'
As I said before ask your Cllr for Dawlish Clatworthy he is on the committee that implements the TRO, make him earn his £31,000 + a year
I have sent an e-mail to Cllr Clatworthy and am awaiting a response, I'll keep you posted.
Copy of e-mail...
Why have parking restrictions been put in place along Old Town St? I understand that when there were shops there, the restrictions applied, with reason. However, there are no shops there now and no restrictions have applied for at least 2 1/2 years, probably longer. In my opinion, applying restrictions in this area serves no purpose, other than to make life more difficult for residents. Please could you explain the councils reasons for reinstating these restrictions? Just for information, I am not a resident in this area, so have no personal interest, just purely a need to know. Thanks, Carol.
Cal,
When I ask questions similar to yours he always replies. " I will check with the council" which amazes me as he is a senior member of the council, it was he that had free winter parking cancelled, but he is ok as he has a driveway at his home.
One of his comments included to Devon County Council was "they may have to walk a bit further but they will get used to it' how do I know that? I have the transcript
Where did the residents park 3 years ago? Sounds stupid to me that they've reimposed the restrictions, however with some people you can't win - they moan when restrictions aren't followed to the letter, yet moan when they are (as in this case). My sympathies are with the residents, not with those with an axe to grind (such as Peter).
When the Police Traffic Wardens where being made redundant there was talk of all of that area being changed to residents parking it was to include all the streets of Park Road and Old Town Street maybe this is the start of residents parking
Where did the residents park 3 years ago? One of the place was Plantation Terrace which has NEVER had a traffic flow problem. Now perfect for issuing PCN's.
AnyMac, thats the second time you have used someones name, when trying to guess who people are, you obviously have no respect for peoples privacy, if you think I am Peter, wrong, ask the webmaster he will confirm it, it was he who gave me the name User 4549.
Yes I will expose on this web site when authorities act outside the law if you cannot handle it, Tough.
I applaud people who have balls to expose wrongdoings - you have the right to be anonymous, why though is beyond me seeing as you are clearly so passionate about your cause. Have the authorities acted beyond the law in this particular case. Like I say, my sympathies are with the residents.
Did I mention that they had acted beyond the law in my last post? and no in this case they have not.. People have the right to be anonymous should they so choose, even if it is beyond you.
This seems a reasonable response, lets see what happens from here
Many thanks for your email and I have recently asked that the parking restrictions you refer to be removed, as background about five years ago DCC proposed to remove the restrictions and I asked for them to be retained following representations from the two shops then still open but now there is no requirement and I was surprised to see that recently the time has been reduced from two hours to thirty minutes. I am putting Dave Huxhan the of the Neighbour Team in the loop and asking that he gives you the up to-date position.Regards johnclatworthy
Cal, Congratulations of receiving what seems to be a positive response, lets hope you get a positve result.
