Has anyone noticed the new ways you can use to pay for parking (stickers on the side of the machines).
How secure are your personal details when using credit or debit card? the small charge mentioned on the machine is 20p per usage plus of course text and phone charge.

This method of payment has been available for ages. Those of us that pay parking fees, rather than dumping their car where they like, would realise... All personal data, obviously, will be secure as the service provider is PCI compliant.
So how long have dawlish been using this method?

We will disclose your personal information to service providers including, without limitation, payment processors, customer service outsourcing providers and parking industry service providers to allow us to provide the RingGo payment service.
Authorities
We will disclose your personal information to the Authorities to facilitate the provision and/or future provision of the RingGo payment services and where this is necessary for the purposes for which the personal information was collected.
I don't know precisely how long, but it's not a recent service improvement. With regards to personal data, they are PCI compliant and therefore your data is secure.
AndyMac, "PCI compliant and therefore your data is secure. " So how many time have government department lost personal data. Sony also had a problem, USA had their war department hacked. Nothing is completely secure. I have also found out that the personal data is held by Teignbridge DC, it only takes one bad apple to ruin the security.
Makes me wonder why you bother to leave your house, if you see spooks every time you go round a corner. Good grief, such paranoia is not healthy. I work within a business that has PCI compliance so can tell you based on fact (rather than fear) what it's all about.

User4549 ,If your that bothered about its safety , pay cash like the rest of us. As Andy Mac says, this system has been used around the country for years,its no different to buying any item on your credit card. Is it 100% safe NO, but its alot safer than using your credit card in any shop , or petrol station. Its also safer than drawing money out of a cash machine. Is anything 100% safe NO, but if your that worried about things then , how do you ever cross the road or eat out. Try living, instead of seeing the bad side to everything.

Sorry to butt into your conversation, but what annoys me about being able to pay by text/credit card is the additional fee "for my convenience"! In other words, it costs us more to park but costs the council less as the money goes direct into their bank account. OK, so they pay bank charges, but not the cost of paying someone to physically collect the money. Doesn't seem right somehow!

Sorry DawlishBlue, but the person collecting money still has to go round collecting it regardless of how many people pay by card - some still pay by cash so the machine has to be emptied.
It is a convenient way to pay if you need it, we've all left the house sometimes without enough change to park - it's pigging annoying, you've got too choose then, risk a ticket or search for somewhere to park without charges (always difficult).
So what if you have to pay extra to use the service, some things cost more to provide and I'd prefer the extra not to be passed off onto my council tax.
Firstly, payments by card attract bank charges, the 20p covers this. One advantage no-one seems to be aware off is that if you are going to be late back to your parking you can pay for extra parking by phone so avoiding a penalty charge.
However, as previously stated, it isn't compulsory, if you don't like it or want to pay the extra 20p then just put your money in the slot!!

Some of you may or may not find this interesting.
Have you all gone mad, youre arguing about paying extra for something which should already be covered by the council tax. Paying to park on or by a public highway is just another scam to rip off the motorist who already pays road tax. To make matters worse the councils cannot even police the scam themselves and farm this out to private companies to avoid the flack directly. The whole situation of paying to park needs to be outlawed then there wouldnt be a problem.
