So now there are only 5 Tories on Town Council! Can't believe Mrs Lawson has resigned after just two weeks and only hours after signing her Declaration of Acceptance - what a waste of bloody money - typical Tory!! Let's hope that voters remember this whenever the election happens. Power to the IVFD.

Don't think there will be an election, someone will probably get co-opted onto the town council as her replacement.

Interested to know how you know she's resigned. Is it official?

I'd guess we will have a new election as im sure more than 10 people will ask for one. Lets hope the tories get hammered for wasting our money.

Actually, thinking about it, I think you're right. We might well have an election as the vacancy is in Central ward and I suspect that it will be quite easy to find 10 electors within that ward to do whatever is necessary so that an election gets called. Depends I suppose on whether or not IVfD have someone who wishes to stand for election to the town council.

I wonder how much such an election will cost?

To stage a one-off election for a single seat on a Town Council is estimated to cost £10,000. Make her pay the costs, I say.

£10,000 eh? Wonder what that could be spent on instead of a by election?

It might make more financial sense if the candidate who came immediately after Tessa Lawson in the May elections should just be co-opted on. And if that should be a Tory - so be it. It won't make any difference to the political make-up of the town council will it? It will just put it back where it was before TL's resignation.

Just think of the political slagging off that will take place if 10 electors call for a by election that will result in unnecessary expenditure of tax payers' money (when we are in financially straitened times) and when elections were held but a couple of weeks back.
