Dawlish Discussion

I see on the TV news First Great Western are not going to continue in the west beyound 2013. This is good news for passengers...it is me! First gave the West old carriages and as many wll know overcrowded trains at peak times.

I'm looking forward to more services and longer trains from either South West Trains (Waterloo - Exeter line) or maybe Southern....>

If anyone has travelled along the south coast from Southampton you will know their green trains are so quiet!!!! and plenty of carriages to cope with increasing passengers on the trains. Have a look at the video.

How civilized - Plymouth airport closing, Stagecoach withdrawing bus services and now First Great Western not renewing its rail franchise. So much for public transport eh ! Wont be long before the Pony Express gallops through Dawlish once more, but where will it be able to stop without getting a parking ticket from Clatworthys balliffs. Maybe it will just carry on to Teignmouth like everyone else after Mrs Prowse block paves the strand. Bring back paddle steamers up the Exe

Sorry but Stagecoach have no plans to withdraw services through Dawlish..sorry about that kind of news! Thursday 13th the 1035pm from Exeter-Dawlish had 4 passengers and only myself travelled as far as Dawlish. Wonder how many travel on the 1135pm that arrines gone midnight?.....some would say evening services are not needed but imagine the fuss if removed.

On the trains, though dont think anyone is bothered really, First were due to end in 2016 but want to end early in 2013 ..another train company will take it on and may prefer Crediton way to Plymouth instead of Dawlish due to the sea wall. Would anyone miss it ..i'm thinking not really...Okehampton want the train back..

I think, long term, that is what will happen BUT to state the obvious, it cannot happen until that line is (re)built so until that happens train companies have to use the Dawlish line as there is no other option.
