A PURPOSE-built soft play centre with a 40-seat café in Dawlish has been sold for £59,950 to new owners Jonathan and Kathy Baldwin from Enfield in Middlesex. The Monkey House is an 'interesting' business in the heart of the town next to The Lawn park and stream which cascades through Dawlish over a series of waterfalls before running all the way to the sea. The Lawn is a popular and safe environment for family games during the day, and at night hundreds of coloured lights transform the area to a magical place for a summer stroll. The Monkey House was created in 2008 when the premises were fitted out at 'considerable cost'. The play area is designed for children up to the age of nine to 10. Charges are £3 per child with parties from £7.50 (including food). The soft play area includes a slide, climbing frames and ball pool and the café has modern wood and metal tables and chairs and a commercial kitchen. The business which generates a healthy turnover of £116,542 (excluding VAT), has been sold by Bettesworths of Torquay for the leasehold interest, trade inventory and goodwill.
