2 of them are already guarenteed seats

Perhaps it's me missing something again but when you say " 2 of them are already guaranteed seats" what do you mean exactly?

For the elections to Teignbridge District Council, in Dawlish North East Ward there are 8 candidates standing for election to 3 vacancies and in Dawlish South East ward there are 6 candidates standing for election to 2 vacancies.

Dawlish north-east 4 vacancies, 6 candidates, 3 are IVFD so one guarenteed a seat.

Dawlish south-west 6 vacancies, 8 candidates , 3 are IVFD so one guarenteed a seat.

What does IVFD stand for?

And I don't know where you are getting your figures from re the wards. I've just checked again and according to TDC's website it is as I originally said:

Dawlish Central & North East Ward - 8 candidates contesting 3 seats

Dawlish South West Ward - 6 candidates contesting 2 seats.

Think you must be talking about the parish (town) council elections not those for Teignbridge District Council.

Still don't know what you mean by IVFD. Please enlighten me (and others).

3 x wards for the Dawlish Town (Parish) Elections

Central Ward - has 13 candidates contesting 6 vacancies

North East Ward - has 6 candidates contesting 4 vacancies

South West Ward - has 8 candidates contesting 6 vacancies

I think I, sort of, can see what you mean about 1 of those who is presently a councillor being a councillor again in North East Ward and South West Ward. But who that councillor will be in each instance we don't know do we.

Seems like Fronteraman is not standing.

Ah but Fronteraman is surely not his given name at birth?

He/she could be standing under his/her real name!!

Mind you I'd have loved to see Fronteraman on my ballot slip....

J Warrener is right, IVFD (test tube councillors for Dawlish?) will get a minimum of two seats on the Town council;

North East ward - 4 seats, 3 candidates each for Conservatives and IVFD

South West ward - 6 seats, again three each for IVFD and Conservatives, one candidate each for Green and lib Dems so at least one IVFD councillor.

Central ward - 6 seats, more candidates for this ward; 5 Lib Dems, 4 IVFD, 2 Green and 3 Conservatives.

District Council has 5 seats - 3 Independent, 4 Lib Dems, 5 Conservatives, 2 Green spread over the two wards.

What is interesting to note is that the LibDems aren't putting up many candidates for the Town elections, wonder why.

Doh! Got it now. IVFD = Independent Voice for Dawlish

Right......so if it is two definite IVFD candidates being returned (one each in N.East Ward and S. West Ward) then the next question to ask is how to increase on that number? Tactical voting that's how. If you want to increase the possibility of having as many IVFD candidates returned as possible then only vote for the IVFD candidates and no others (and yes, I know that means not using up all your votes).

Ditto the Independent candidates standing for election to Teignbridge District Council.

So what do we think then, is this election going to be only about local issues?

Are poeple going to use this opportunity to tell their sitting candidates that they don't want them any more?

Or will it be a chance to show how you feel about coalition government?

Or more likely will it be the usual apathy that abounds in Dawlish?

Come on Lynne, a little apology to J.Warrener wouldnt hurt... :-) Hopefully this will be a local election for local people about local issues. 'Local people' being defined, of course, as people who live in the town and immediate area NOW. VOTE INDEPENDENT VOICE FOR DAWLISH!!

You probably notice that INDEPENDENT VOICES FOR DAWLISH have separated themselves from any political allegiance, and that's because they feel that Party Politics have no place at Parish level (i.e. Town Council) .

It's slightly different at District Council because they can influence Housing and Planning policies, and more so at County level where Education, Social Care and Transport are added. But down at Town Council level it's just a matter of looking after some local facilities, and that's where the present lot have failed us - trying to sell off the Manor House, buying 34 Park Road and leaving it empty for 15 months, and now taking over care of Teignbridge property without adequate safeguards for local tax payers.

Some existing town councillors have done a decent job of asking questions and challenging some of these wayward plans, but IVFD reckon its time to give the Council Tax payers the choice of who will do the best job for Dawlish at an affordable cost.

IVFD leaflets will be delivered to as many housholds as we can manage, and we look forward to talking with you if you have the time.

@Andy Mac & j.warrener

I was trying to figure out what J.Warrener was getting at. Thought first of all s/he was talking about the District elections then realised that s/he was talking about the parish elections. I was further confused (as my postings show) by the term IVFD.

So, you are both correct. I will not apologise. Why should I apologise for trying to work out what someone is referring to? I was trying to get clarification and information. Why should I apologise for that?

"I dony know where your getting your figures from" and then implying i was wrong might be what you need to apologise for , but your reply says more about you than any apology could ever do

You are 'reading' an implication where none was intended. Like I've said above, I was trying to figure out what you were getting at, which I didn't twig to first of all.

Whilst we are on implications - any chance you could expand on your implication when you write "but your reply says more about you than any apology ever could".

@Andy Mac

I'd rather not reveal my identity in case you catch me out on some past posting where I've upset you on another subject. I'm also hoping that you will find in each of us something admirable and worth supporting. We have a really great team and the everyone is on very good terms.

We have had a couple of meetings in central Dawlish and one at Cockwood and the next is at Dawlish Warren on Wednesday next, 13th April at 7.30pm in St Mary's Hall (in the outer car park). I hope you can make it.

Then we are taking to the streets with the aim of delivering our leaflets to every houshold and speaking to as many people as possible.

Thanks for your interest.

So much for transparency. Same old, same old I'm afraid. Good luck with the campaign though.
