I see from today's Gazette that the Tesco Appeal concerning refusal of planning permission for it to build a supermarket at Lady's Mile will not now be resuming until May.
Check out page 27 for more info.
Sainsbury's and a Tesco that would be brilliant, cheap prices and more choice. I hope they get planning permission.
Well now, given that the reason for Dawlish having a new supermarket was because it needed one, but ONE ONLY, it will be very interesting to see Sainsbury's reaction should Tesco's Appeal be upheld.
Now everyone has given up the battle to stop any supermarket from running the towns business ecconomy and Sainsbury's developement is now under way. We need another one to provide some form of pricing competition or Sainsbury's will charge over the odds, they are not known for being cheap in any case. Pressidence is now set so roll on Tesco's for Lady's mile, Morrisons for Broadmeadow, and how about a Lidl or Aldi for Starcross. Cant wait cheap food and petrol and 100s of jobs you must be joking !!!!!
We don't need a Tesco as well as Sainsburys. Soon there won't be any small shops left in this country, all we'll have is supermarkets! Tesco has agressive marketing, but it's not always cheaper.
Tesco is far too expensive! .very clever adverts 'every little helps' people think they are getting a bargain..points cards etc ..you are bound to fill your trolly and with expensive veg..
Im still getting my large Hovis bread for 99p in Dawlish Costcutters!!!! ... in Asda where I mainly go its £1.35 ...I do know thats not the kind of info people want to see heret!
Just how many supermarkets are needed in Dawlish and cannot Tesco accept any decisions given against them.
If Tesco cannot accept any competion from other supermarkets then what will be their attitude to local shops.
Tesco's as well as Sainsbury's would be a total disaster! Do you want the town to completely die? Tesco's are an unscrupulous multi-national that have lodged an appeal that is costing local council taxpayers their hard earned money! All the money spent in a supermarket is shipped out of the local economy and into the hands of investors, so one supermarket is more than enough! Some people will only be happy when every town is devoid of a living community and they can save a couple of quid and get a few extra points! Bizarre!
It obviously would be nice to have more than one supermarket as we could choose where to shop.
People that want to shop in town can, people that want to shop at a supermarket can.
What have the little shops got to do with this?
Not sure that how many supermarkets a small town should have because they would offer more choice to the customer is part of the planning criteria.
And anyhow, if the Morrison's at Teignmouth goes ahead wouldn't that provide competition to the Sainsbury's at Dawlish?
