I see from the Gazette that despite only being built in 2002, the conservatory at the Manor House is now rotting away & needs replacing at a cost of about £11,000 (or more). We council tax payers really got good value from whoever had the building contract on that one, didn't we!
Would have thought something like that would have been subject to a 10 year guarantee just like most good quality double glazing, and if not why not.
Not another job done on the cheap was it
They most certainly can, but like everything else they wont. Perhaps the company that built it might wish to comment on here.
Our well respected town clerk will certainly know all about this, so come on Mr Winchester. Who built it,? How much were they paid and how ? What guarantees did we get ? and finally why is it falling down.
Maybe the councillors who voted to purchase the property in Park Road should get together and find a way raising the money themselves!!
After all if you or I purchased a property in haste and then relised it not to be such a good idea who would bail us out.
Further to my previous post on the conservatory, I have heard today that the contractor is disputing that he is at fault. Apparently it was built to a certain specification, reading between the lines I should imagine this means it was built in soft wood, not a hardwood, because of cost. Therefore it seems Smokey is right and it should have been regularly maintained. Whether this was the case should be on council records; if not properly maintained, then the council is responsible.
