Has anyone else been on <a href="http://www.dawlishonline.net/homepage/?panel=home" alt="DawlishOnline.net" title="DawlishOnline.net">dawlishonline.net</a>?

There's some really useful information, news stories and a very accurate and up to date business directory and you can review local businesses.

It's about time there was somewhere you could read local Dawlish reviews instead of having to take the owners word for how brilliant they are!

<a href="http://www.dawlishonline.net/homepage/?panel=reviews" alt="DawlishOnline.net" title="DawlishOnline.net">Click here to view their the reviews page!</a>

Obviously this site doesn't support html so you'll have to ignore my attempted useful links! Here they are again in simple text for you to copy and paste :

Ramadamadam, this site does support html. In fact it uses one of the most popular open source WYSIWYG HTML editors around.

Most forum posters have no problems with posting hyperlinks.

Quite an audacious entrance dude, I must say. However, good luck with your site.

@webmaster - i think the dawlishonline site isn't brand new - i think it's been around since 2008. is that correct ramadamadam? or am i confusing it with something else?

Funny (as in coincidental) that Ramadamadam should bring our attention to Dawlishonline as I was in town only today and saw some posters advertising its existence. And I thought to myself "Must look up that site when I get home". Just have.

I find Dawlishonline difficult to navigate. Example.. in 'gossip' re Saisnburys ..click 'more' and you get sent back to where you were!. The site doesnt do anything for me....but thats me!

Can't say it does much for me either if I am honest and some of the info on the site is wildly out of date.

@Ramadamadam i agree with @webmaster they do have a very straight forward standard wysiwyg editor. you just needed to click the little hyperlink button.

i do quite like dawlishonline.net though. @wondering i did look at that gossip and didn't notice a problem. maybe it was fixed since you looked, it is only a beta site and they do seem to update the version quite a lot.

also @Lynne it looks to me that the info is quite relevant. they seem to add news more frequently than this site. but maybe that is a recent thing because it doesn't go back too far. and in the version info it says launch was september 2010.

I do like the fact that the advertising on it is quite relevant to local things. I mean nobody likes to see ads. Especially when they are irrelevant google ads. But some of the ones on there are local businesses.

Sorry to prattle on but personally I prefer it. Still gotta use this one though until more people start using the other site more.

Hello Eveyone

thank you @Ramadamadam for the plug and @kaedo for your support. we are still trying to get our name out there and the interest building.

We are sorry if anybody has had difficulties using our site. We are improving the usability of the site every day. We are still in the beta testing stage so we have the site live and active but there are still issues to fix but we found the best way to find them is to have people use the site and fix them when they crop up. Please if you are on the site and notice something that isn't right or you think should be different then just fill in the feedback form on the left. It's 30 seconds of your time and will help us greatly in creating a complete online experience.

currently we are trying to build up our reviews section (again thanks @Ramadamadam for the mention). we understand that a business directory while important can be found in hundreds of places on the net. mainly from google searches and so we are trying to provide a reviews section created by the locals who know the places well.

We do appreciate constructive criticism as it helps us improve our system.

Thanks

We have checked out the "gossip page more link" and the full site is working fine but the mobile site isn't working because the section is still under construction. We have removed the link for now until the issue is resolved.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Now......... it may be that I am going a little doolally but I'll swear that the Dawlishonline website that I looked at yesterday is not the same as the one I looked at but a few minutes ago.

The one I looked at yesterday had something on it about the 2006 Carnival and on another page where it listed the names and locations of eateries in the town it mentioned one that I know for a fact hasn't been in existence for some years now namely the cafe at the Coastguards cottage. There was something else as well that was out of date, can't remember it now*, but hence my remarks in my posting above.

What is the same though is that just like Wondering and PJD if I go on the gossip page and click on the Sainsbury's thread I get taken back to the home page

* just remembered - there was a page that gave listings of the local councils and details of our MP. Yesterday it said it was Richard Younger-Ross - wrong!

So....has Dawlishonline been updated and altered in the last 24 hours? Or am I getting the website that I looked at just now confused with the one that I looked at approximately this time yesterday?

Help.

@Lynne are you sure you didn't go on dawlish.net as that is very outdated back to 2008. dawlishonline.net looks like stuff has been added today but not changed. it seems to be a dynamic site like facebook or this site. rather than just an information page like dawlish.net.

Maybe try logging in. I dunno I have a user and log into dawlishonline. Maybe thats why it works for me. You shouldn't have to log in to see stuff though. You South Devon Online guys should take a look at that.

Dawlish.net has, on its home page, the words Dawlishonline. And, yes, it was to Dawlish.net that I was referring. But hardly surprising is it that I (and probably others) confuse it with Dawlishonline.net.

An unfortunate clash of website names?

I would like to clear this up once and for all...

if you read this page properly... dawlishonline.net did not start this post, @Ramadamadam did. @Ramadamadam is a registered user on dawlishonline.net and we have received many quality comments and reviews from him on our site.

As mentioned above DawlishOnline.net is still in the beta stages of testing and any constructive comments are greatfully received so we can address the issues and correct them as soon as we can. Our mobile site was originally designed for iPhones and has now been modified for ALL mobile phones, so the iPhone error message was just an example of what a beta site is like until all the bugs have been ironed out and testing has been completed.

All we can do is apologise for any incorrect links and page content you may find, and hope that you would be so kind as to point these issues out to us.

However... DawlishOnline.net cannot be held responsible for user errors, even though we put just as much time and effort into checking those issues out as we do legitimate site issues.

Dawlishonline.net is a modern website with a lot of features and content, our sites have been designed with older computers, monitors and internet connection speeds in mind to make them as backwards compatible as possible, but it is very difficult to accommodate for every computer, mobile and browser type. Keeping a website technologically up to date is an ongoing issue that most, if not all, big information and database driven websites face every day - even Dawlish.com has had a recent visual overhaul.

If anyone has any further constructive comments about the usage of our computer and mobile sites, we would love to hear them so we can improve our users experiences. Can you please state whether it is our standard or mobile site and what the issue is you have experienced to help us correct the problems as quickly as we can.

Thank you to everyone for the time you have spent on this thread helping DawlishOnline.net's future developement.

I operate on windows 7 and my laptop is 12mnths old, I have no problem navigating any site except yours. There is no feed on the lefthand side to leave feedback. I presume because it comes up as a mobile site and Im using a lap top that is the reason I cannot navigate it, sorry if Im a bit THICK

Hi @PJD,

What internet connection are you using?
Are you using a dongle?
What ISP (internet service provider) are you with?

The reason I ask is because we are currently testing a piece of script that is designed to recognise if the user is using a mobile phone. If it thinks you are then you are automatically re-directed to the mobile version of the site.

It might be that you are using a browser/internet version that is confusing our script.

If this is the case, there is a "View Full Site" button on the bottom of every mobile version page which will re-direct you to the full site.

I hope this helps, please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any further problems or questions.

PJD I agree.

I'm happy with what I know and its easy here! ..just click at the top what you want and bingo its there! ..how is easy that!

All this fuss about access via i phone and mobiles..Im sure one day people will look back at the early 2000s generation when people walked everywhere with a phone stuck to their head and adults playing facebooik games on a phone! (at a price) duh!
