Express and Echo and Western Morning today.

HIGHWAYS chiefs have come under fire from residents and councillors for their handling of parking enforcement in the city.

Nothing new from these unprofessional people

Sounds very similar to the Devon Camera Partnership fiasco we suffered a couple of years ago. Remember camera vans parked on peoples private drive ways, grass verges, bus layby's and on yellow lines.

Trying to enforce illeagal 30mph limits. As above they still havent complied with the highway regulations regarding street lighting, road marking and signs. That one cost us about half a million quid.

Another County Council joke

Here are some interesting statistics:

http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=1208

The number of deaths each year on UK roads reduced from over 7,000 in 1967 to just over 3,000 in 1992. Since then the number of deaths has been pretty much the same apart from a small decline in 2005.

Speed cameras were introduced in the UK in 1992. Therefore, the thing that had the most impact on reducing road deaths was what was done before speed cameras were introduced.

This proves that the council are wasting their time and our money.

Sorry, that was slightly off topic from the original post. I had another point and that was that councils tend to take advantage of fines in order to improve revenue when times get tough. So we need to be on our guards.

In fact, the cost of implementing the speeding cameras in 1992 was recovered through the fines imposed on speeding drivers.
