I do not accept the justification for paying these bonuses "they will go and work elsewhere". These are the incompetent bloody people who got us into this mess in the first place. No one would miss them if they slung their hooks forever, only a few wine bars and lap-dancing clubs in the city of London, maybe.

Labour are also to blame for not taking the opportunity to rid the country of these disgusting pig-like creatures when the crisis hit.

The banks should never have been bailed out. What a missed opportunity.

You are so right Steve..daft thing is people will want Tony Blair and Gordon back again you see!!! Makes you laugh how when Labour put VAT down 2 and a half for a short time everyone said makes no differnce, now an outcry because its gone up 2 and a half. Its something to do with people cant work out what 2 and a half actually is lol.

Whilst having no time whatsoever for bankers continuing to have their HUGE bonuses especially when many others will be losing jobs and homes this year, I have to say that had the banks not been bailed out then the resulting banking collapse wouldn't bear thinking about.

I think that whoever was in government at that time would have needed to have bailed out the banks, what I object to is that they are still having bonuses (and huge ones at that). They should be greatful they've still got jobs! Many haven't and won't have come the end of this year.

Lynne, of course it bears thinking about. You can't have free market capitalism if governments pick and choose what companies are allowed to go bust or not.

What didn't bear thinking about was the alternative which was the transfer of a huge amount of taxpayer's money, most of which comes from the poorest since most people are poor, to the richest and which clearly continues today unabated as is evident in your original post.

What a missed opportunity to change the world for the better.
