Dawlish & Teignmouth suffered the disappointment of missing out on promotion for the second season running when they lost by four wickets to Clyst St George. James Burton's side had to win - and hope Plymouth Civil Service slipped up at home to Stoke Gabriel - to clinch the second promotion spot behind runaway champions Feniton. Civil won anyway - they trounced Stoke in double-quick time by six wickets - but that will be scant consolation to D & T, who were fourth last season and third this time around. Paul Horne (75) and Jamie Day (51) propelled D &T to 161 for two against Clyst, before it all started go wrong after left-armer Tim Downer was wheeled into the attack. Downer shot through the middle order on his way to a six-for-36 haul as D &T were skittled out for 209. Duncan Chave and Downer (37) gave Clyst a 42 run start, Jon May (2-45) and John Laister (2-54) bowled D &T back into contention, but a stand of 67 unbroken between Chris Doe (42) and Tim Read (27no) killed the game off. Civil know all about last-day disappointments as Stoke Gabriel robbed them by a point of promotion last season by hanging on for a draw. Twelve months on there was no danger of history repeating itself as Stoke were restricted to 186 for seven - Dave Bayliss taking five for 32 - a target Civil knocked off with 14 of their 46 overs to spare. Stoke laboured for runs all the way through with both Bayliss brothers - Phil had two for 45 - making life difficult for them.
