Seems it is not just a rumor. The person I heard talking about it is very knowldgeable in this matter, and reliable in her information. Anyone else heard anything?
I don't think weatherspoons would work in Dawlish because their pubs are a bit sedate and do not have music or entertainment.
Thats fair enough Steve, BUT there are a lot of people in Dawlish that DONT want that noise, but enjoy a pub where not only can you have a conversation, but eat and drink at a reasonable price without getting ripped off.
Dawlish is NOT all about youngsters.
So PJD you mean there are already holes in the wall? So it is a Coop then. I don't think a Wethersoons would have worked but it could have been worse. Another Ladbrokes? or a Betfred?
PJD I have a friend who also works for the Coop and she told me a few months ago Coop had spent so much money buying out Somerfields that they didn't have enough money in their kitty left to extend through to the Woolworths premises.
Ziggy
It is going to be a co-op as i know the manager and assistant manger very well and they have let me see the plans and its going to be a co-op end of!!!!!!
I hope those who complain so much and dont use the Coop will still go to Tesco on the slippy roads. I bet suddenly people will use Dawlish shops lol.
Sorry DEI, but its NOT 'end of' as you so politely put it.
1] If it is going to be the co-op, then why have they taken so long to do it?
2] As Woolies is a listed building, how are they going to knock through?
Because they had to get inspectors in to check the building out draw up plans check if the lifts and warehouse was safe and only the front of the building is listed and with ever listed building theres always a loop hole!!!!So carer END OF!!!!!
Well then DEI, lets wait and see. END OF.
Now go and send your letter to santa, like a good little boy.
CARER
When co-op knocks into woolies i would like a personal apoligy from you please. As i know 100% its going to be co-op so its a dead sert!!So do me and the other users and jog on
Ps Santas said your on his naughty list
It seems supermarkets are like metal coathangers they keep on breeding, This one is Morrisons in Teignmouth
The old Woolies shop still has a sign on it saying 'Shop To Let'; so we can conclude that nothing is happening with the place.
Tescos look set to go back to court in March. Also Somerfield is closing down in Newton Abbot and Wilkinsons are taking store over. To conclude within a five mile radius of Dawlish we will have a Sainsbury, Morrisons and likely Tesco!!!!!!!!
I was earwigging in Newton Abbot yesterday a couple chatting in Newton Abbot market sqaure area..moaning about Newton Abbot how its going to change and how Teignbridge Council dont know what they are doing! ..funny part is they were saying 'oh well we dont like change so will go shopping now in Tesco at Totnes!. So backs my thoughts people never shop where they are..so everyone from Newton may well come to Dawlish Sainsburys!.. and visit the town for a nip round the shops and a cream tea!
As someone says above Woolies clearly has a sign 'shop to let' ..Argos would not find enough business wouldnt think.
Have just checked planning applications back to Jan 2010. None refer to Woolworths so assume nobody soon is likely to be opening the store. Just another eye-sore for the forthcoming holiday makers to endure. The council need to find out who owns the building and make them clean and repair the frontage. If it is a listed building as sugested earlier in this thread, then it should not be to difficult to enforce the required works.
As for Harrison's take note that this is not a locally owned business, and that they have applied for permission to renew the frontage of the building. This in itself shows some form of commitment and investment to the town, and we certainly need more of this. If the owners took offence and moved out we would be left with another empty building and more jobs lost.
If Co-op own it why don't they get a move on instead of just getting builders in and banging a big hole in the wall and then no sign of anything happen.
I have been told the hole was to take the bit away and test for aspestos!!And it wont be long friday they have a chap coming down to official :) Im right as always
Excellent news welcome to Dawlish supermarket capital of the world, come on Asda, Lidil and Aldi youre missing out here. We have 13,000 posible customers all waiting to spend money with you. This place is rapidly becoming a joke. Good luck to Tesco in May
If they knew how 'negative' Dawlish is they would not locate here and avoid the place like the plague! Barclays Bank and HSBC knew when to get out!
