A new CCTV control room in the centre of Newton Abbot will help police detect more crime, the Devon and Cornwall force says. They are also hoping the scheme will be extended to cover smaller towns, including Bovey Tracey and Dawlish. The scheme is being jointly funded by the police, the district council and the town council. Police say other towns in Teignbridge are now expressing an interest in joining the scheme. Newton Abbot has had CCTV cameras for several years, but until a couple of years ago the monitoring of them was irregular.About two years ago a control room was created at the town's police station, but now a new, bigger centre with two members of staff has been built in the centre of town.
