How many people received PCNs today ? Disabled were booked and people displaying valid parking tickets. According to teo SIGNS STATE NO PARKING FROM 8AM TO 11PM. These signs stated 21.8.10 Weds but apparently a yellow sticker was placed over this dat yesterday to read 20.8.10. Who dreamt this up to keep residents from using there vehicles to shop, usually no parking from 4 on Carnival Day. And we who shop local and support all YEAR,another nail in the coffin for our local town centre, Teignmouth here I come. PS why were the ticket machines not covered up, another con by TDC to get more money.

You cant expect anything more from the foul mouth of Dawlsh Man, I think the webmaster should take a look and ban him. Kids can read the rubbish and foul language he puts on the site.

It is a great shame, but we all knew it was coming. After all the carnival happens every year. As for myself I did all the shopping on Tuesday and parked my car outside my house and left it there. I had to go out today but used the shopper bus and went on the number 2 to Newton. No problem for me. As it's only once a year, perhaps you should be prepared for it next year. I believe the carnival is going to be from 13th to 20th August 2011, so you can't say you don't know. Plan ahead, it's not rocket science.

To you, "wondering", I will apologise. PJD and his geriatric whinging got to me after I enjoyed such a wonderful carnival week in our wonderful town, thanks to the fantastic efforts of the wonderful carnival committee and carnival volunteers. I hate old farts like him who have nothing positive to offer due to their own personal inadequacies. He's a has been and a never was, who should hurry up and die and free up the oxygen that he's wasting for those of us that deserve it.

DAWLISH MAN --- I have always believed in free speech, but the foul and abusive tone that you use to people on the forum is quite frankly churlish and sickening, I wonder which gutter here in Dawlish you live in.

Isn't this thread about parking in Dawlish on carnival day? Or is it all about agreeing with DM,and no one else is able to have a point of view? Point is , parking on Strand is limited to 1 hour, so no one needs to be moved on until 4pm. So shopping could continue as usual as has been the case in previous years.

I understand that many Dawlish residents parked their cars as normal on unrestricted areas only to wake up to find that NO PARKING CONES had been placed overnight and they had received a ticket. I find that to be unfair and quite outrageous, and should be appealed.

When the Police used to cone for the carnival and air show cones where placed in heaps and then placed as vehicles moved and a list of parked vehicles there reg was compiled. I presume that the new enforcement officers have to abide by the same rules are they aware of the correct procedure ?? They will have to prove that any vehicle booked was not there when the cones where placed

I think the way they get round that one (please correct me if im wrong) is that the enforcement signs were put up along the strand 5 days prior to the enforcement order taking effect. The initial signs did have the wrong date on but this was corrected Tuesday. I saw two cars getting ticketed in the loading bay outside one stop, but i understand thats a no parking zone (Except goods vehicles) 24/7,as is the one by the Co-Op

Im going to answer you Don as I enjoy your posts, thank you for those words,User I endorse your comments and can tell you those cones were being put out at 5.30am. The residents of this town know on Carnival day that we have to move our vehicles off the route by 4 without this high handed authoritism. Every year the cones go out with signs that no parking from 4.30pm never been a problem in the past, also loading bays were closed off with signs upside down saying no waiting no loading no unloading, ask the shops what they think, good day Thurs, bad day Friday. Nothing was going on on the lawn Friday so why close the whole town off from 8am, could have seen the sense in that Airday. Also Teignbridge should have covered the ticket machines up. Wy was Brunswick not closed off for the Pram Race, cars beeping contestants to get out the way, without the Police being involved been a bit of a farce. I love our Carnival week normlly but this year not so sure

DM = Dawlish Moaner would be more appropriate!! Why should PJD bu@@er off to Teignouth just because you don't like his comments? The carnival was great as always, but this year there seemed no logic to the traffic enforcement. Our team didn't win the pram race but my eyes were wonky and my knees sore by the end of it, but the blooming cars honking their horns was a nuisance, this needs to be looked at next year. It was probably the tourists not knowing what was going on or the hot hatch boys of teignmouth. But as always I'll be there next year and maybe Dawlish Moaner might like to be on the committee so he can serve dawlish in the style he likes....."his way and his way only"

I should have added to my previous post. Using the FOI I have asked Teignbridge for the number of PCN's issued in the Strand and also the number issued throughout Dawlish on Carnival day, I have also asked for a copy {Devon County Council) for a copy of the Temporary Traffic Order. I think it will be interesting to find out how much of a field day the CEO's had, and whether or not they had a TTRO in place. They have 20 working days to reply and they usually answer on the 19th day. Pick the bones out of that DM.

I am relatively new to this, but I am really concerned about the abusive vocabulary that the user Dawlish Man and the personal verbal attacks he has used in this post. I am of the opinion that he 'likes the sound of his own voice' [albeit in text] on here, and if you disagree with his opinion, then automatically you are in the wrong. I am sorry Mr Dawlish Man, but you do not seem to be a very nice person. I would assume that if you go to a public house for a drink, your voice can easily be overheard above everyone else's, and forcing your opinions onto all around you. God help anyone who disagrees with you.

Not had chance to post as been busy. I sat outside a caff on day and watched driver after driver pull up and try to park, even though there were cones all along the road. Many thought slapping there disabled badges in the window before abandoning cars was ok.This was at about midday and it was a constant battle for the Traffic wardens /pcso's to keep the road clear, so i can understand why the road was a no parking zone all day . If they had tried to clear it at 4pm they would have had to lifted a number of cars. Although the wardens/pcso's were continually abused , i didnt see them book one single person. Usually i hate them but on this occasion i had total respect for them, id have booked the lot of them after sufferring the abuse they were getting. As for moaning about not being able to park when disabled , come on you have every other day of the year to do your shopping. Next time use some common sense and shop on another day . Its not rocket science.

I have been told by Teignbridge DC that it was at the request of the Carnival Committee to change times from 4pm - 11pm to 8am - 11pm, why change it when it has worked for years. The no parking signs had the wrong date -21/08/2010 - which was a Saturday so if you read the sign on Wednesday you would have no reason to check again, around lunch time on Thursday they put a yellow sticker over the date and in red, it said 20/-----. I agree that not everybody would have been confused, but we are supposed to trust authorities to get it right. Why didnt they cover the pay and display machines?. The Ceo's you saw may have been wrongly abused, but others had a field day. Ask the traders how they felt about the amount of business they lost due to a different time being used this year. Even the local Councillors were confused.

No going to be Technical. Traffic Wardens were employed by the Police same as PCSO but CEOs are in the Employ of Devon County Council/Teignbridge and they get commision which the Wardens did not, they must have earnt a helluva lot that day. Sorry to nit pick lol

Still doing the same job just differnt bosses. Same as the binmen, careworkers, and many other jobs.As i said they seemed to do a good job on the day, whoever they were working for.As for blaming the commitee, come on , everyone knows they have no say on it what so ever. They can make a request but it is the powers that be that make the decisions. If the ceo's i watched were on commision , then they must have been doing it for the love of it.I Sat there for an hour eating and drinking and didnt see them book one person, although i did see them moving 50-60 people on that they could have booked. Perhaps the CEO's had won the lottery beforehand and didnt need the money.

What time of the day were you sat eating and drinking? How many years have you lived in Dawlish? Do you think that the person in authority who said the Carnival Committee asked for it is a liar ? Ask Stokes and Lloyd Maunders what it was like and how it affected their trade ? all on a day when there was absolutely nothing going on until the evening.

Warriner, Sorry to differ and most probably seems picky, but the following is from S Edwards Manager of CEO's "The County Council received requests for the temporary regulations from the Carnival Committee in the normal way". I guess she means Devon County Council not TDC Surely it made sense to keep the times as they used to be for years. 4pm/11pm instead of 8am/11pm

Trade may have been down on the day , but that was because people like myself shopped the day before, because we knew of the restrictions.Maybe trade was also down due to the number of people who ate out on carnival night. All the cafes were busy hence no need to buy meat or veg.Have to admit i do find it strange that trade was down considering the town was very busy.Werent Maunders and Stokes 2 of the shops in favour of pedestrianisation?

Unfortunately I am not so privileged as you to be ableto eat or drink out, and this time of the year wouldexpect said establishments to be busy with holiday makers.Freedom of choice springs to mind, I shopped onTuesday because I did not wish to fight my way through the hordes on Airshow day, I had to pay money into the bank on the Friday as well as pick up a few vitals, we are not all in position of having amplefunds some are on tight budgets, and the way I manage is like many others day to day, but he real issue here is there was no logical reason to close off the TOWN ALL DAY, Teignmouth managed very well the other week with no parking from 4pm as we have every year previous
