Take a walk around the town centre and see how many TDC bins you can see. We could do with at least 4 more down the Strand preferably metal with a cigarette butt bin on top like in Exeter. Private wheelie bins get used between emptying and being brought in , visitors to the area do not know our recycling rules!!! We pay enough in Council Tax without offering our bins free of charge. Even after the Council workers ha been this morning the Strand looked bitty. Tegnmouth are awash with street cleaners

Why waste money putting more bins down there? Most people, if they were standing right next to a bin, will rather throw it on the pavement. Ive seen it myself.

Well said PJD. I agree with you 100% on this subject and with the writer of the similarly-veined letter published in this week's Gazette.

Thank you DM. As I am down the Strand every morning before 6am I see the state it is from day/night before rubbish everywhere. Talking to other shopkeepers they also acknowldge the problems, if your shop frontage doesnt stop at the pavement you are responsible to clean that yourself the street cleaners will not do it !!!!!! so they can blow it everywhere with their machines, people stand outside these shops smoking and stub out butts on the floor, TDC come along and threaten to fine you unless you clear it up. Im sure 99% of people would use the bins if they were there, in fact holidamakers have asked me where the nearest bin is. I walk along picking up rubbish and put it in the bins because it annoys me so much. I thengo over to Teignmouth and see the street crews working oer their, I agree with the letter in the Gazette we are tretead as non excistent by TDC

Negative? Why? Are you telling me that you havent seen it yourself? People standing next to a bin and throw their rubbish on the floor as they are too lazy to put it in the bin. As for spending time away, well, I do have to work you know, and its when you come back from Scandinavia, Germany and some of the the old Eastern Soviet Bloc countries, you realise how dirty this country is. People place litter in bins in those countries, even if they have to carry a sweet wrapper, empty coke bottle etc for a 100 metres. So cant you carry a little piece of rubbish for 25 metres? As for the rubbish down the Strand in the morning, havent you seen the seagulls tearing into the bins, black bags and pulling rubbish out? Of course not, you are PJD and totally blinkered. Exactly WHEN are you going to wake up to the truth?

Seagulls are a menist i agree but they dont throw cans, bottles dog poo bags etc around, dont put all the blame on them If I saw somebody throw litter on the floor I would poliely point out where the bin is. I agree this Country is dirty it never used to be at one time we had Keep Britain Tidy Campaigns, its just the lazy attitude of today, its somebody elses problem, ive even watch people step over rubbish. Anyway what isthe point of trying to bring up something on here which concerns Dawlish people when you shout it down, I thought that was why you started on here and your blog, bye bye stay in Frankfurt sure you will be happier

Do you know where I spend my holidays PJD? DAWLISH!!!! Why, because I love this town. I dont spend money during my business trips as it is covered by expenses. Yes, I am lucky to be in a position where I can claim expenses, but when I come home, pubs and restaurants do well from MY pocket, as I spend MY money in THIS town. Mrs Investigator doesn't feel the need to go to Tesco and spend money, as she prefers to STAY IN TOWN and SHOP, so keeping her money in DAWLISH. Can you say that??? No, you cant, as you go to Tesco in Kingsteignton and spend your money. At least WE can say that we SUPPORT this town 100%. Can you? No.

So I SHOP LOCAL and WORK LOCAL you have no idea about me and I do not go away on holiday neither, got no passport never needed one. Unfortunately we cannot afford to pubs or restaurants but do not begrudge anybody who does

Without disagreeing with your main point, I think that is fair to say that the very reason that Keep Britain Tidy campaigns were run was that people were just as bad about litter in UK as they are now. Litter has been a big problem as long as I can remember. Don

zero tolerance on littering and fines; works a treat. More bins and more unemployed sweeping the streets.
