What are peoples thoughts about the lead story in the Gazette re. the August Bank Holiday festival to be held at Warren Farm? Licencing has been obtained for 14,000 people to attend each of the 3 days, from 11am to 11pm. I say good luck to the organisers, looking at the wider picture it could be very profitable for the town.

If it were to be held in Dawlish town like party in the park some years ago i could see how the town would profit but the warren, its not exactly near is it.

If it were held in Dawlish i could see how the town could profit but the Warren, its not exactly close, ie walking distance, is it

If it means that there are, for example, 1000 additional visitors who stop over for the whole weekend, then yes it would be very profitable for businesses in the town (hotels, B&B's etc). The article states that there will be a park and ride facility from Dawlish to Warren Farm.

how can dawlish not profit from it. One it puts the town on the map, two as has been mentioned previously, people will need accomodation, food ,drink and three Dawlish to the outskirts of Dawlish warren is hardly a long distance to walk. a whole mile and a half. buses also run straight by the site and there will be a park and ride. When Muse played Teignmouth, hundreds of people that attended stayed in dawlish and dawlish warren , gaining the local economy thousands of pounds and helping to keep people employed. You always get one person that finds something to moan about. usually the same person that moans that nothing happens around here. some will never be pleased.

I never noticed an increase in people in dawlish apart from the usual serge because it was weekend when mused played and i live above the shops, teignmouth certainly did well, concidering there were 20 thousand people at the gig it should have registered some increase in dawlish town but didnt unless you say otherwise which you probably will so get of your high horse and get real

Alf Roberts maybe and the holiday camps, 1000 people is nothing, and they will be looking for a cheap stay

I think the biggest clue, might just have been the huge number of people walking around in Muse t-shirts.

Amosite, there's a job with your name on it at the Tourist Board. You say that, "1000 is nothing" in terms of additional visitors (my guess out of 14,000 attendees per day). I think you should try telling that to local businesses - better still get down to David Force's next Chamber of Trade meeting at the Brunny, because I'm sure they could do with some of your pearls of wisdom...

Does anyone know why the live music performances from 12.00 - 22.45 have been blackened over on the Public Notice posters along the coastal path???????

More news in today's Herald Express: STAR names from 1970s and 80s have been lined up to perform at a new festival in Dawlish Warren this summer. Belinda Carlisle, Aswad, Slade, Modern Romance and Les McKeown's Bay City Rollers have all been signed up for the first Amber Coast Festival, being held over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Amber Coast Events is putting on the event and has lodged an application for a premises license with Teignbridge Council. If they get the go-ahead it is anticipated that 42,000 people will attend the festival over the three days with entrance limited to 14,000 people per day. But ahead of approval being given, Amber Coast Events are steaming ahead with an event launch on Sunday, May 9 on the main grass area at Dawlish Warren. The day, from 10am until 5pm, will include a range of family entertainment. Amber Coast Events director Derek Collins said: "We have applied for the premises license but need to start selling tickets as soon as possible to cover costs. "We have held public meetings to allay any fears anyone may have and we hope that there will not be a problem getting the license. "To have the names we have so far is a huge coup and we think it would be a landmark event for Dawlish Warren." Teignmouth rock outfit The Quails have already confirmed they are taking part in the festival. Events will also include the Red Devils parachute display team and the White Helmets motorcycle display team. More arena events are planned, said Mr Collins. The two charities that the festival is supporting are Help 4 Heroes and the Helen Foundation. A Teignbridge Council spokesman said: "The organisers have a premises application lodged with us. "It's open for representations, meaning people can lodge their support or objections with our licensing team. "The representation period closes on May 26 and if no objections are received it will automatically be approved. "If any objections are made it will have to go to the council's Licensing Act sub-committee no later than June 24." Tickets for the festival will be on sale at the launch event. Prices range from £25 for an adult day ticket and £5 for a child's day ticket to £60 for a three-day festival ticket for adults and £10 for children. £25 to watch groups who have not had a hit record for over 20 years. bit steep, say two adults with 3 children thats a very expensive day out to watch a bunch of has been's and a parachute jump that was free on teignmouth beach last year. 14,000 a day, someone is kidding themselves here .

Cant see 14,000 a day turning up for those named so far.more like 2-3000 but from what i can gather more names are to be added including headliners.

Having spent a lifetime in the Music industry, this has wash out written all over it unless they can book a act that can pull a crowd, those 80's acts listed so far were not big hitters in their day never mind now, you wont get hard working hard up people to part with £25 each to watch clapped out 80's acts unless they can pull up some bigger names like powederham did with the 80's show, Paul Young, Rick Astley, to name a few, from he Jam and the specials are a excellent suggestion.

I saw the Specials and Madness last year - they were both awesome! I agree with the sentiments on here that the Amber Festival organisers need to pull a couple of bigger names out of the hat if they are to realise their ambitions for this year. That said, my missus loves the Bay City Rollers! Hopefully the Amber Festival will make enough of a profit for the charities to make it worthwhile doing again next year. And the year after that, etc, etc.

Bay City Rollers? They couldnt sing then, so what chance now? We supply the Buckfast and they can bring the Irn-Bru. LOL. I agree with Dawlish Man that the Specials and Madness would be great. Excellent entertainment for all ages. That is what they need. Would like to see Dave Edmunds & Rockpile here, but I think that is asking to much. UB40 also. Just my sixpenny worth. FAO AMBER COAST. If anyone from Amber Coast reads this, I emailed you last week, 30/04, and I am still waiting for a reply !!!!!

Hi im Danny. First local businesses will profit from the Amber Coast Festival in one way or another. 2 examples are the hotels and holiday camps, if there are 14,000 people turning up to the festival from further afield then the south west they will need places to stay in Dawlish, Teignmouth or the surrounding areas we are also useing local businesses for there services such as security which comes from Torquay. Secondly the notices have been blacked out due to a mistake. Thridly, more bands are being brought up in meeting all the time. We are contacting them and we have bands contacting us. To other peoples answers, The Bay City Rollers still have a lot of fans. We had a lot of comments about them on the Sunday launch in Dawlish Warren. We believe it will generate a lot more the 2-3000. IF you look at other tourist attractions in Devon some do charge a lot of money to vsit them. We have tried to keep prices down as much as possible. Thanks

Let's just get MUSE and a few local bands to play (OK, SOME FOLKY BANDS AS WELL)... £25 a head would be acceptable ( kids under 14 £10.00 )
