Even manager Chris Myers, who has spoken highly of the players' attitude over the past month, had to accept the seasiders were poor, and that there must be more surgery if they're to climb off the bottom of the table

"I'm not going to give up, but we looked like a bottom of the table team," he admitted.

"It was frustrating, disappointing, annoying: it was everything from my point of view, especially going a goal down within the opening five minutes having talked pre-match how important it was not to concede anything in the first 20 minutes."

It was an ugly goal, too, with a mis-timed tackle in the Dawlish defence compounded when a mis-timed shot looked to be food and drink for goalkeeper Mark Rock before it bobbled and trickled into the net.

Dawlish plugged away for the remainder of the first half, with Mark Pepperell missing with a free header at the far post, fellow-striker Craig Fenner losing out in a one-on-one with the Welton goalkeeper and Steve May side-footing wide with the best chance of the game from five yards.

"All the lads held their hands up, because they know they should have scored in those situations," bemoaned Myers.

He added: "While we played poorly, we should still have won, and that makes it all the more frustrating.

"I don't know if I allowed myself to be lulled into a false sense of security over the past four games, but we didn't have a shot on target during the second half, and that concerns me.

"I am not going to give up. We are 13 points adrift of the team third from bottom, but now is the time for players to stand up and be counted.

"There are still a lot of teams around us in the table, who we have to play, but we have to be a lot better than Saturday."
