Welcome to Dawlish. Just don't venture to the top end of the lawn unless you want to join the group of undesirables that seem to have taken over the shelters. The stench of vomit and urine is horrendous. I have just walked through the lawn and witnessed one male drinking from a large cider bottle and one female vomiting. My family frequently used these shelters to eat their packed lunch with their friends. I was once told by a member of the police force that it's not against the law to drink alcohol in a public place or at least in Dawlish and providing you are 18.
Just goes to show how effective our PSCO's are, I have seen one of them lauging and joking with young kids drinking and smoking outside the hedley centre.
The same PCSO no doubt that was accompany the CEO Friday night, when there is a real problem he runs away, likes to stay where he is safe, joke!!!!! thinks by doing that with the youngsters will get him onside they laugh at him behind his back, often see him sat on lawn chatting to them
A ban on alcohol in a public place has not been enforced in Dawlish. In August 2008 I was informed the subject had come up at three council meetings but the council had turned down a request of a ban. One reason given was quote "The carnival didn't want it" My answer was Teignmouth have a ban on alcohol and still have a carnival. I wonder if the subject has been brought up at any council meetings since 2008!!!
They used the excuse that families may like to sit on the lawn enjoying a picnic and a glass of wine. Who in their right mind wants to sit on that? Its full of dog poo cos the filthy lazy owners cant be bothered to pick it up.
Amazing really????? Years ago I remember moaning and complaints against Dawlish Youth Club when it was at the LL Centre on Old School Hill. However, it was contained and the Youth Leaders seemed to work hard with the local police to stop drink & drugs (although this was always tough to do - it didn't seem half as bad) that was shut, because as I remember the Youth Leader struggled to get support from all of the members of the Dawlish Town Council at the time....there were a few forward thinking councillors who helped out but in the end the Council got what they wanted - closure. In hindsight perhaps we should of supported it more, kept it and helped it to bloom into a ground breaking centre...always so nearly there with all similar projects??????
