I think the answer is because people drove like lunatics down High Street, especially at night. I've seen some still driving like lunatics despite the road works!

But at least there's the satisfaction of knowing that the chavs will have knackered their cars, and will hopefully cost them a fortune. Better make sure that the humps are the right size though eh?

I find that 99% of the time I use High St Im going along at 20mph or less as invariably traffic is queud back, mobility scooter, cyclists or HGV vehicles in front of me. How are speed humps going to help, just going to cause more problems and in the holiday season dread to think what the tailback is going to be like eminating from the Strand and up Queen St. as everybody slows down to negotiate the humps.

20mph max with speed cameras would solve the problem, would save all the mess at the moment. Its the speedy mob in the evenings where the problem is. Mind does beg the question if the road has been closed for so many weeks and during half term, proves the town can get by without it!

Highways Officers at County Hall have measured the speed of traffic using Sandy Lane and suggested that at approximate speed of 28mph is not high enough to warrant traffic calming. I think the measuring of speed must have been done during the day when work on the new youth centre was in progress because it would have been impossible to drive much above that with all the lorries unloading and work vans parked on the roadside and often stop go signs being used. If the speed was measured in the evenings or at weekends when the children are using the park then the true reading would be more like 50mph when the lunatics are out to impress. I agree with Wondering speed cameras with a hefty fine is whats needed. every other option is a total waste of money.

Safety cameras do work - that's an undisputable fact. Unfortunately, they are a few publicity hungry and very vocal loons who would have you believe otherwise. I think the likes of whom you can guess I refer...

Stil the same old whine against PH why not give it a rest. If you hate him that much then confront him, and tell him what you think.

Give it a rest? If that's the best you can do, then you and your bestest friend are nothing but hypocrites. For the record I hate no-one on this planet. I also respect and uphold the law - can you say the same? Or do you countenance anarchy?

"I also respect and uphold the law - can you say the same?" I certainly do respect the law, and authorites should do the same.

There is an EU road hump mountain. We in the UK have a quota of humps that must be installed to reduce the surplus. Some other countries may not take their treaty obligations as seriously as we do. We should just accept that the authorities know what's best for us. frivolously, Don

In my experience, when people use the expression "that's an undisputable fact," they is usually wrong on two counts: The fact that they state is not a fact but an assertion. It is disputed, normally widely so. In this case I can add a third count. The word is "indisputable". Iis OK to call me a loon but I think "publicity hungry" and "very vocal" a little unfair. Don

Indisputable: Incontestable: not open to question; obviously true; Undisputable: Not capable of being disputed, not subject to doubt or question, certain, assured. Pretty similar semantically, I would say. Either way it's a fact - the statistics prove this to be the case (unless you believe that the statisticians are in on the conspiracy too?).

My apologies. Rare though it is, as you say, the word does exist. I was just being catty although I thought you had hit the "u" by mistake. Serves me right!! Don
