I was out investigating earlier, and saw that the Brewery Bar has temporarily closed due to falling trade, and they are blaming the road works for it. What I want to know is, why blame the road works? Is it because that passing motorists cannot park in their gargantuan sized car park that they have? Is it that people dont like to drink in that place? Its not the most welcoming pub, if you can call it that.I certainly wouldnt. Because it is winter, they, along with all the other pubs in the area are obviously feeling the pinch. Or are they are using the roadworks as an excuse to try and claim compensation? The Investigator.
I was out of the country last week, so missed the article. But can you always believe what you read? And I did see their own reasons on the door as I walked by.
I use a number of shops around the area and witches bowl now and again. All of them say takings are down as people are avoiding the area. Not sure how shutting all-together can be justified though.
There is no need to close as people can still get to the establishment. Maybe they have a claim to the road works company and will get more money in that way! The place had turned seedy with unsavoury charactors standing outside, was smart at the start but that does not sadly bring in Dawlish local trade, so they had to follow the ways of other pubs.
Sadly that seems to be the case. It was OK for a while, but if you had wanted to go in more recently it always looked as if you had to push through a load of drunks cluttering up the entrance. The appearance was offputting.
You lot make me laugh. 'Unsavoury'? I.e. people having a smoke outside because smoking inside has rightly been banned? Can't win with some folk. Hopefully the Old Brewery will re-open sooner rather than later and be once again be a pleasant place to enjoy a drink and a meal.
If it hasn't already opened, I believe it will be opening soon. Nothing to do with the roadworks for the reason why it closed.
@Dawlish Man. i believe that it was due to staffing problems and something to do with the chap who was the manager (not mr baker)leaving. that is what i have heard, so it may not be gospel.
