As mentioned previously am starting a layed back(not noisy)Jam session in Dawlish.I have 2 other players interested so it's a start.I play lead guitar covering blues/country/mor. As the pub is a quiet place with an older drinker it will have to be a fairly relaxed session to cover the styles(blues/country/60s/70s)as requested by the land lady If things are to work out! "Bobbleoff", you mentioned you play guitar?Still up for a regular weekly event then? I also have blues harp player showing an interest too so would really like a response from other interested players/singers in the area!As no drummers can be accomodated for various reasons, suitable backing tracks will be prepared for live jams and of course all input is welcome! The jam session will commence in January and details of the event and location will be posted forth coming as soon as the landlady gives the final "all go""
The Investigator will be interested in listening, and will look forward to you posting the venue. Hope to see you there.
Sorry, I only just saw this. Any progress? I'd certainly be interested... Might need to get some new stuff into my repertoire, mind.
sorry, but this session has been postponed indefinitly as no main singer was available to launch the session. Thanks to those who showed an interest!I will post an update If things change!
Blues ? are you trying to get the drinkers to commit suicide ? A very very small percentage of musicians actually like the stuff and those that do tend to do so because they are not very good and only know 3 chords and one riff Open up, take the shackles off and some folk might turn up that can play more than 3 chords.
that's a pity. well, if anyone's ever interested in a jam for the sake of enjoyment - public or otherwise - i'm interested. @mark "a very very small percentage of musicians actually like the stuff " i think you might find you're wrong there. "...those that do tend to do so because they are not very good and only know 3 chords and one riff" again, probably wrong and, besides, popular music tends to be relatively simple, and a lot of it has roots in blues. upshot being, i can't imagine that a bloke sitting in the pub playing mahavishnu orchestra solos, or maybe some reich influenced avant-noise, would go over better than a bloke playing hendrix, either in terms of attracting others to join in or entertaining an audience.
Thats the first and last mistake, thinking that a audience wants to hear drivel about dirty dishes, or yest another rendition of Hey Joe, knocking on heavens door or any other manor of clapped out long dead drivel. You would empty the pub, hence the lack of interest, anyone any good would avoid it like the plague, it's 2010, play something from the last 35 years and you might be in with a chance, most people in to 60's music either died some time ago or an their 80's and to deaf to hear it.. Do the maths.
@mark. did you read the original post??? its a jam session for christs sake, not a full blown gig. ok, make it on a sunday lunchtime or on a bh monday afternoon then. its nice to hear live music no matter what year/genre it comes from. there are other people in this town that appreciate music apart from those under the age of 25. dave. have you asked up at the swan? its worth a try.
"We'll do the maths if you do a course in English. Deal?" Will you be joining me to do one on grammar ? If I were to post a retributive comment like that, I would at least make sure it was grammatically correct. Glass houses and stones.
Under 25, ? 30 years ago the Clash released London Calling, The Jam were in the Charts with Eaton rifles. Where do you get under 25 ? I play in a very successful covers band, we play what people drinking in Pubs now listened to 30-20 years Ago, average age of our Audience is 50-60 years old. We mix this with some material from the Manchester 80-90's era for our 35-45 audience members . I think what you are looking for is a platform for failed musicians who failed to notice that things moved on in 1968, just a bit. You will empty the pub.
