Dawlish Town v. Gresley FC. Saturday 16th January, Sandy Lane. A cracking home draw against a Derbyshire side playing in the East Midlands Counties League. They're likely to bring a good travelling support too, so we'll need to stock up on faggots. People of Dawlish - please some out to support the club that represents YOUR town!
Yes it is. Dawlish Town FC is representing our town on the national stage - and doing a very good job of it too. Think about it, Gresley will bring a fair number of supporters into our town for the day (and some will no doubt stay overnight), all of them spending money in local establishments. Some might like our lovely town so much that they decide to come back again in the summer. I hope that the people of Dawlish (e.g. all those wearing Man Utd, Liverpool or Chelsea replica shirts, but who have never been within 200 miles of any of their grounds), will support our town's football club on it's biggest day for years.
Who owns Manchester United? Who owns Liverpool? Who owns Chelsea? I'm sad to say that it's your kind of insular attitude that holds Dawlish back. Thankfully you are in the minority, and I can guarantee that our town will continue to get better. Dawlish Town FC represents our lovely town. We should be proud that it is putting Dawlish on the national football map. OUR TOWN. OUR TEAM.
Well anyone who sits and watches Football surely has to be sad! Best part about Football and World Cup weeks is that fans are locked away in the pubs and that makes the towns, roads and beach pleasant places to be.
With all due respect to the United lads, there's a world of difference between the 4th Division of the Devon & Exeter League and the Premier Division of the Western League. At the level that Town play, it's simply impossible to compete with a side wholly made up of town-based players - particularly a town the size of Dawlish. LOL, if Manchester United fans felt the same as you, then Unibond League side Salford City would have 50,000 watching them every week!
As you well know and are no doubt well pleased about, the Seasiders narrowly lost 1-0 at home to a very good Bishop Sutton side. How did Dawlish United do against Seaton Town - I genuinely don't know.
As a local footy fan who has visited the ground a few times, i have to say that reaching the 4th round is a great achievement. I have heard that Gresley will be bringing at least 100 fans with them from the Midlands. A number of them will be staying for the weekend, or arriving early on the day. I would guess that they will be bringing a much needed boost to the local economy, with guest houses, hotels and self catering sites all enjoying the extra income, not forget the cafes, pubs and restaurants that will also benefit. then their is the shops and garages as they stock up for the journey home. If they enjoy the visit then hopefully some will return for holidays in the future. Good luck Dawlish
